Unless the coach who was recruiting you tells you to de commit so that you follow him to his new gig......I know, I know another one of my conspiracy theory's.

We just need to stop recruiting California altogether. None of the kids we've recruited from Cali seem to have panned out in recent years. If we do continue to recruit California, I hope we only recruit receivers and tight ends.

I don't know what it is, but I live in Cali and I get the vibe that football just isn't as important to people out here as it is to people in the South. Often times, a lot of the elite kids on these West Coast teams aren't even from this side of the country. Look at USC. The two best players on that team (Leonard Williams and Nelson Agholor) are from Florida. I'm sure the same can be said about a lot of other teams as well.

If this Jones kid "doesn't think Florida will be the same", he's right. It won't. Apparently, he was more comfortable playing for a coach that was synonymous with mediocrity. If that's what he's looking for, he'll be a perfect fit for Tennessee. I'd rather McElwain recruit his kind of QB either this year or next year instead of trying to convince this kid to stay. Good riddance.

So you think Mushcramp will have decision making authority over the offense at his next DC gig?

This says it all. Not even close.

We have plenty of QBs and Mac will get a good one to come here anyways that suits his offense. We will be just fine. We will end up with a top 15 recruiting class.

I feel like :mac: is gonna kick :moon: and take names. He may not be able to turn a lot of the big name guys back our way, but I feel confident he'll fill our needs with guys he feels will fit into his idea of how he wants to do things.

Ummm, Captain Obvious the point is that Roper may not be back next year.....Roper was his primary reason for wanting to come here.

Agreed. Stay out of Cali or pretty much the rest of the country for that matter. Maybe a call to NC or MD every once in a while, but what do you need at UF that you can't get in state or in South GA or maybe LA (even that one is typically a waste). The day a coach spends on the road to see a kid in another state he could see 12 of similar or better talent within a few hours drive of campus. JM should forbid his coaches from going more than a 4 hour drive North of West of campus until they LOCK down the state of FL again. Pluck all the flowers there can out of our garden then start looking at other people's back yard. I'd also like to see us own South GA like we did in the Spurrier era.

Oh, and as far as losing a QB this year, I have to agree with Law...meh. The OL commite loss hurts a lot more than this one. JM won't have trouble finding HIS QB.

This is an interesting point. The time factor spent recruiting out of state prospects vs. in state. I don't think you can completely shut it down though. Remember some kids are just going to be Clowns and Thugs just like some won't be anything but a Gator. Also you can't afford to pass up a swing at guys like Dominique Easley, Joe Haden, Percy Harvin or Jalen Tabor.
I ask this question before and don't remember if I got an answer. I have heard that UF student athlete's have a higher qualifying standard. Is this in fact true? I know Machen put an emphasis on a higher academic standard a few years back. If so does this force us to recruit a higher percentage of out of state players. I know Florida's public schools for the last decade or so have been considered behind par nationally. :headscratch:

What about Powell? Or Carl Moore? Nevermind...
Exactly. Powell, waste of time at LB (too slow) and too small and weak to play the run at DE in the SEC
That's because he should have been a TE. Am I doing this right?

I think we should focus all of our efforts on recruits in the state, worry about the out of state ones later. Too often they back out at the last minute, or transfer after a redshirt year due to being homesick. We have enough recruits to take here in the state, so we should focus time and energy locally first.
