Got me J, i thought it was an article where the mods here talked to reporters about the loose ship ox is running. Allowing half nekkid men photos but deleting some fine feminine pics. Putting in a Guest posting area while putting a deadline on Lifetime membership signing up. Kicking URG to the curb so the inmates run wild in the chatbox.

But it was a good article, and says what we've been saying, (the rest of the Gator Nation usually come around to our point of view on things), and it is critical this next hire gets us back to elite status ASAP.

What’s the chatbox?

When I graduated in 88 and moved to Arkansas for my first TV sportscaster job, I also had Gator Bait mailed to me...what was the publisher's name back then with the 70's porn star mustache???? I forget....

Are you talking about Guerry Smith?

BTW, glad you like living in Chicago. I also lived about 6 blocks from Wrigley but never was a Cubs fan and they sucked donkey balls when I was there and I would go sit in the bleachers which were fairly empty when I was there to watch the REDS. I never adapted to living there too well, as it was too cold but I do miss some of the restaurants. My 2 fave steakhouses were Gene & Georgetti and The Erie Cafe.

Marty has a very good point about those two decades (interrupted by 3 yrs of Zook, who DID amazingly beat GA 2x & LSU in their 03 NC yr in Baton Rouge) being outliers in FL football history. I graduated 40 yrs ago. In my four yrs (73-76 seasons) we beat Miami all four years, Auburn all four years, F$U all four years, and yet GA only once (freshman year), and lost to KY in both away games (74 and 76). Despite success with what were then 3 out of 4 of our traditional rivals (Tenn was not, they were a "rotating" team back then - you played six SEC games, five permanent - yes - Miss St was one of them, and four "rotating", for us Bama, Tenn, Vandy, and Miss), and still never won an SEC title.

The 80s also showed false promise, punctuated by stinging probation (one serious, a second one, nearly so, but not). To get back to the "glory years" of SOS, it is going to take a coach who has a vision, and is willing to do the heavy lifting (within the rules, of course). That coach is going to have to show that HE is in control - but he is going to have to be a leader that will also earn respect, from the players (for being tough but fair - looking at you, Urban, who allegedly played favorites) and from the fans. And that street goes BOTH ways. The coach needs to be fair (no favorites) but the players need to respect him, and the university they represent. No more embarrassing incidents, whether misdemeanors or potential felonies, no more boasting, no more criticizing.

And speaking of the fans - Marty is right again. The tired bromide of our fans being "spoiled" needs to be put to rest. As long as we are "behaving" and not posting outrageous comments on players' social media, etc., none of this is on US. It is on the how the coaches coach and the players play and act like men who will represent our university in the best light. Marty's article hit the nail on the head.

Great comments but I think players need to be leaders, through their actions and also through holding the other players accountable in every aspect of being a Gator football (or any other sport) player. Player leadership counts a lot more than many give it credit for. Even the NE Patriots have player leadership.
