Pretty telling
Where Florida ranks in the NCAA in major statistics, Week 1
he Gators currently lead the country in four key statistics. They stand in first place alone in passing defense, giving up just three yards through the air to Charleston Southern.
Only 14 teams managed to hold their opponent to fewer than 100 passing yards, and the Gators were the only team to hold an opponent to single-digit passing yardage on opening weekend.
Florida also sits in a tie for first in red-zone offense (100 percent conversion rate), red-zone defense (0 percent conversion rate) and blocked kicks (two). Only two other teams managed to block multiple kicks on the opening weekend.
Of note, the Gators blocked just four kicks in the past five seasons combined. To get hands on two in the season opener is a terrific sign that Dan Mullen has UF's special teams headed in the right direction.
Ther eare some areas of concern still, though Florida ranks in the Top 25 nationally in 15 major statistical categories.
The Gators rank just 109th in run defense after giving up 222 yards on the ground to the Buccaneers. While 70 of those yards came on one play, it's still a bit concerning for a defense that had trouble stopping the run a year ago.
