Too many good running backs is a good problem to have. Like any other position play the ones that give you the best chance to win. If it happens to be a freshman and you run off a couple of upper class men in the process thats just something you have to live with.
Either it hasn't been explained correctly or it hasn't been understood. Having 4-5 backs in the rotation is good for all of them. A RB only has so many hits he can take before his body is done. Use them up in college and you may only have a 2-3 year career in the NFL. Split the carries in college and take more hits in the league while you are getting PAID makes better sense. It will prolly g your nfl career which means more money for you.
They all want to eat.Either it hasn't been explained correctly or it hasn't been understood. Having 4-5 backs in the rotation is good for all of them. A RB only has so many hits he can take before his body is done.
Yeah there is no reason to rush Davis at all. Let him heal slowly and fully and let him learn the playbook completely.if Perine feels he will be the odd man out on getting many touches with Davis getting healthier.
Not to mention that the NFL has severely devalued the RB position. Unless you are a generational back you are just another back in the RBBC and specialization approach most teams are utilizing. This is all well and true; but without much game film, NFL scouts aren't going to be drafting you on a sample size of 2-5 carries a game either.
When you break it down: there's only about 100 RBs on NFL rosters (3+ on every team)...with at least 50+ established starters and first string backups. That leaves between 40-50 RB spots up for grabs at any time. Which will be between veterans, guys who didn't make a roster in the last 1-3 seasons, and rookies. Of the rookies: you have your Power 5 guys as the top-tier candidates--and usually the top 2 RBs see substantial carries.
Suffice it to say: the odds aren't in your favor if you aren't a top 2 RB at a Power 5 school OR the feature back at a smaller D1 school with the stats and game film to show for it. Everyone knows that, hence why people don't stick around to fight it out with the latest 4/5* recruit if they aren't in the top pecking order within the first 2 years or so.
