If he plays DE which i think he will, 260 is very respectable and I think that 260 is mostly muscle (dude is strong as a bull). I think polite has huge potential. Can probably play a little everywhere depending on the situation.
We will see. I know some of you are high on Polite.

I'm pretty lukewarm regarding him. Think he is just depth.

It's not just size. It's height and technique. On the line, low man wins. Being too tal is a disadvantage for playing inside. Not so much outside (the tackles are generally taller than guards).
Technique is a big part, but size matters too. Its one of those things where you kind of need a bit of both. Technique with no size or power wont help and size without good leverage/pad level wont help either. Both are important

I gotta say, I'm pretty happy with the weights I saw on the Oline, but some of the Dline guys I was hoping we could count on this year to be something special, look like they weren't interested in being special this year...unless "specialist" is what they consider special, because at those light weights, they're pass rusher one trick ponies. I'm losing faith in our ability to hold up against a good run game now.
5 or 6 guys, depending on how you count Desir-Jones, are d-line that are 290 lbs or more, and 4 are 305 or more, with other guys on the ends (roughly 5 or 6 viable options), exactly how many guys do you want playing on the line at any given time?
We are technically at least 2 deep across the line right now, you could argue 3 deep.

I think the issue is that 3 of the 300 pounders are true freshmen and we'd like to be playing guys that are 290+ at SDE.

While I agree, I think we are clearly in better shape on the d line than many thought we would be. I still wouldn't treat Slaton and Conliffe as if they were true freshmen...I'm convinved they are going to step in and make a difference.

I was actually referring to Zach Carter, but I thought he was taller than 6'4" and people saying he HAS to play DT.

Saying three deep, when the 2s or 3s are either OL who appear terrible at DT, or freshmen doesn't inspire confidence. But we knew we would be forced to play them, ready or not.

Oh, you're right on Carter. I'd love to see him play SDE his entire career.
