So the police have a sit down with him and say he is not a suspect. Has he been charged with anything?

No, but he hasn't been cleared of anything either.

If only he played at FSU, he would have a supportive coach advising the media that he is really a good kid that is misunderstood.

Cowboys just signed him.

If he is cleared that is a good signing. Top round talent, and cheap cost. The risk/reward isn't bad.

Wow, they got him for $1.65m. I heard a few days ago that this incident was projected to cost him somewhere between $6 and $12 million depending on where in the first round he went. If he didn't have anything to do with the lady's murder that's got to be a bitter pill for him to swallow.

That's what I was thinking. It seems like he could of signed for much higher if he was in the clear, even if he was undrafted. It's terrible what happen to the girl, but it's unfair that Collins was robbed too.

I believe the amount he signed for is the max that he was allowed to by league rules. I think this all goes back to the rookie pay scale they implemented a few years ago. My understanding is the only thing of real value that was able to be negotiated was having the entire $1.65 million be guaranted rather than having the total value be $1.65m with only a portion guaranteed. Rumor has it that some of the teams were considering a "gentleman's agreement" with him to cut him after the 2nd year of the deal so he sign as an unrestricted free agent with any team for any amount he was able to negotiate, although I'm not sure how much truth there is to that rumor.

It is the max as an UDFA at least as reported a few years ago for a 3 year deal (rookie minimum is 390,000/year, his is $550,000/yr) ... As far as a gentlemen's agreement, who knows. Until year 3 he is an exclusive rights free agent, and year 3 he is a restricted rights Free Agent... it wouldn't be until year 4 he would be a UFA. It would be bad business for a team to make such an agreement.

according to csnphilly:

Dallas put the cherry on top of its offseason on Thursday with the signing undrafted LSU offensive lineman La’el Collins, who’s garnered a ton of attention since the draft concluded. Offensive line was already the Cowboys’ greatest strength, yet they added a surefire first-round talent for pennies on the dollar after Collins was cleared of having any involvement in an ongoing double-murder investigation.
