He didn't get blown out of ALL of them. How can a coach that went 3-34 against final AP top 25 teams be underrated?
I thought it was under Stoops recommendation Spurrier hire Hoke the Joke. I do remember Spurrier going after Bud Foster at V-Tech.Foley demanded Ron Zook, three times. They were best buds.
But SOS admittedly hired Hoke twice.
i try to block that shyt out.I thought it was under Stoops recommendation Spurrier hire Hoke the Joke. I do remember Spurrier going after Bud Foster at V-Tech.
The Mumme types are definitely guys who think that they don't need defense. They don't even tackle in practice. I wouldnt touch one of those guys. The Mumme tree are all very questionable people too. Drinking and drugs. No thanks.
Lane Kiffin may be an insufferable a-hole, but strictly in terms of his coaching abilities, after his performance at FAU last year it's a little hard to argue that he is overrated as a coach. He came in and led the same team that had gone 3-9 the year before his arrival to an 11-3 record, winning the Conference Championship and a 50-3 victory in the first Bowl Game they'd been invited to in nine years.
There's no logical reason to not hire Norvell other than he's green. Had Memphis won the AAC, that objection would have been cast aside. Someone will take the plunge eventually.I get that Norvell may have had a red flag and that teams may have had good reasons to pass on him, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a really good coach. I know Memphis is sure glad to have him in spite of those red flags, and I suspect in a year or two more P-5 schools won't care either.
We just watched a fairly in depth interview with Kiffy.
As much as I wanted to point out to my wife how much of a doosh he is, he goes and gets all humble and funny on me.
Dammit to heck Lane!
Even brought up a lot of regrets on how he behaved and some of the inside scoop on Saban and Carroll.
And he told how he was only a ‘side kick’ offensive coordinator with Sarkisian during the Al Davis interview, when Davis surprised him with the HC offer. He then says - “I was no where near ready for that job”
I really tried very hard to dislike him but...
We both came away thinking he’s learned (or learning) his lessons. Dammit.
And it's the opposite with defensive guys. They play too tight to get over the hump. I guarantee that if we hired a coach that lights up the scoreboard, recruiting would be easier. Even on the defensive side because it's fun to watch. That's the problem with some of the offensive thinkers. They think they can win with offense alone. Spurrier found out firsthand how critical it was to get the right DC.
But much like Brohm, he chose that job.I'm gonna say most overrated is Fisher. I'm gonna say Peterson is the most underrated. He'd have championships if he would've taken a better job.
I was disappointed that he took the Washington job myself but I think he's stayed in that area for family reasons. If that's true, I'll go to bat for him. But Brohm jumped at the first chance at a p5 job. I think he was even trying to get the Baylor job. He really screwed himself. But much like Brohm, he chose that job.
Are you really a great coach if you choose a stupid school?
