So oddly, I have received several requests for me to post about the pool I am having built. Trust me.... I had zero intentions of doing this. I am sure NV and Urg will have very helpful comments. Cooter will probably say it all being done wrong. Anyway.... here it goes.

We designed our house from scratch. 100% custom built. We designed the back of the house with a pool in mind. We had an outdoor shower already installed, had plumbing designed into the back patio for an outdoor kitchen, etc, etc. We didnt think it was going to take 6 years to recover to the point to build a pool.... but it did.

Here is a pic taken a few months ago looking back into the back patio after I removed the screen enclosure:

I want the pool deck to be the exact same height as the patio. No step anywhere. This pic was also taken before gutters were installed. The gutters will have to run into the pool deck and out into the yard.

The wife really, really, really wants a sun shelf. Basically a 6-8 inch deep section to sit in a lounge chair under an umbrella. To accommodate this, we decided on a L-shaped pool. Almost exactly like this photo on Google:

Very close friends own a pool repair company. We have selected them to build it.

What else? Salt water: yes. Screen enclosure: no. We will have it heated and looked at the all the options and have decided on an electric heat pump (that also has a cooling mode). The deck will be standard concrete with knock down finish. The back patio currently has a knock down, but we are sanding it all the way down and having it re-done with the pool deck so it will 100% match. LED light system. I am going all out on the pool pump system. It can be easily converted into a "smart system" managed by my phone.... but I am holding off on that (budget). Water features will be deck jets shooting an arc into the pool. I didnt want a step-up waterfall or anything because my backyard is wide open pasture and so there doesnt need to be a "focal" spot. There will also be bubblers in the sun shelf to shoot about 2 feet up under normal mode (but can blast really high if all the valves are turned right). I have a concrete walkway poured around the house back to the driveway. And I having a 10ft x 14ft pad, connected to the deck to eventually build a pavilion of some sort in the future. I will build an outdoor kitchen once the final inspection is complete, I do not want the inspectors snooping around my work. Speaking of inspectors..... I need a fence around this thing. I dont want a fence, but it has to be done. I have selected the cheapest baby fence I can find to go around the perimeter and will pull it out the day after the inspection. I guess I can put it in the attic. 2200 bucks that is essentially thrown in the trash.

    edit:
Pool dimensions are 15ft by 30ft and the sun shelf will be an additional 8ft by 13ft.

    Day 1, Wednesday.
    9am
The guy comes in with the excavator and goes to to work. Turns out.... he has dug 99% of the pools in central Florida. He shows up with khaki shorts and flip flops and is a surgeon with this thing.
He is done in a couple of hours and the laborers get to work.

I get the 2x4 system now. It was simply a way to build the frame.

    Day 2, Thursday.

The guys spend all day on the rebar and framing. It barely rained at my house in July, but this afternoon.... I think the 3rd worst rainfall my house has ever seen rolls in. (I can tell by water rings left in roadside swales.) It makes a YUUGE mess and 100% washes out the sundeck. There is 3 feet of water in the deep end.

    Day 3, Friday.

They spend all morning cleaning up the mess. And create a temporary water control system and divert all the gutters way out into the yard. They then almost finish the rebar and start on the plumbing.

They 100% finish the rebar and are almost complete with the plumbing.

Day 6 will be monday. The plumbing should be finished and 1st inspection should be tuesday. If that is the case... the actual pool shell will be shot on either Thursday or Friday.

I should mention, I keep a stocked cooler for these boys of water/gatoraid/soda. My wife has also been home all week, so she has ordered them pizza every day. Hopefully a happy crew leads to good work.

Great stuff. My first suggestion is to post larger pictures.

My second suggestion is to ignore URG.

I can easily replace the pics with full size. How does post #2 (Day 0) post look? I replaced it with the full 3MB pic but it looks the same to me.

Read your homeowners and umbrella policy VERY carefully before you do this.

Before I do what.... Build the pool?

I've talked to our homeowners agent (allstate) and premium should go up by about $35 a year. I dont have an umbrella policy.

Or are you referring specifically to removing the fence? There is zero reason for any kind of pool fence on my property.

Best results come from uploading it to a host (I use https://postimage.org) and then inserting it here. Doing that will fill the screen instead of these smaller thumbnails.
