The Florida Gators lost some depth at the tight end position on Tuesday, as junior TE Camrin Knight announced he was transferring from the program, per a 247Sports report.

Knight redshirted as a freshman in 2015 and only appeared in four games on special teams last season.

This spring, he’d been working out as a linebacker, trying to help the Gators fill a position of need.

Knight, a former 3-star recruit, will reportedly play for Georgia State — a school in the Sun Belt Conference — after sitting out a year.

TE and LB are 2 of the most difficult positions to "learn" at this level......The reality is when guys like this get moved across the los from where they're playing it is to be come nothing more than either a blocking or tackling dummy for the other guys..

Not entirely. I just thought a 250 pound guy like him could be good in short yardage or goal line situations since our other LBs are in the 220-230 range. I didn't see him starting or getting significant snaps.

Can't remember the name, but SOS had a RB who converted to LB his Sr year and was a major contributor. Maybe it was a rare occasion that it worked... but it worked. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I disagree. Hell, most NFL "analysts" and other "experts" said Tebow should switch to TE in the NFL, and that's a level higher. Warren Sapp was a TE at Miami. There are dozens of examples. I do agree that most kids who are moved don't end up being stars or major contributors. But in Knight's case I think it was more of a lack of talent (which is why he's transferring to Georgia State vs. a P5 school).

I would agree with QB being at the top. My point is that in HS most LB's simply seek and destroy and a lot are nothing more than either gap filling run stoppers or pass blitzing specialist.....CFB passing attacks and multiple functioning offenses be it pro/spread require a sh!t ton more "reading" ability and it leaves most guys heads spinning.......TE's in HS are usually nothing more than an extra blocker. When these guys get to CFB they not only have to be able to block at much higher level and having but because the offense are 10x more complex they also have to learn these responsibilities.....AND know their specific routes.....Now besides both positions taking on multi faceted roles they are also expected to be at the top of the chart athletic wise because strength without speed won't cut it and neither will speed without strength.....
In other words the type of player who fits the requirements of these positions is much harder to find than any other position on the field IMO.
