I would agree with QB being at the top. My point is that in HS most LB's simply seek and destroy and a lot are nothing more than either gap filling run stoppers or pass blitzing specialist.....CFB passing attacks and multiple functioning offenses be it pro/spread require a sh!t ton more "reading" ability and it leaves most guys heads spinning.......TE's in HS are usually nothing more than an extra blocker. When these guys get to CFB they not only have to be able to block at much higher level and having but because the offense are 10x more complex they also have to learn these responsibilities.....AND know their specific routes.....Now besides both positions taking on multi faceted roles they are also expected to be at the top of the chart athletic wise because strength without speed won't cut it and neither will speed without strength.....
In other words the type of player who fits the requirements of these positions is much harder to find than any other position on the field IMO.

I'll agree with linebacker but not tight end. There may have been a time when tight end was like that. But now TE is mainly a large wide receiver. And that formulas is now being replicated in the NFL. If they want to use an additional blocker they normally bring in a specific inline TE or just another lineman at "TE".

Blasphemy.....:lol2:
I don't mind seeing the use of a hybrid every now and then but to me the use of a big,6'6" 250-265#, TE who blocks like a steamroller and has soft hands will always be what the position is all about.....And other than the QB position it is our biggest stumbling block on offense here....no offense to Goolsby who is a fine pass catcher but struggles mightily with blocking.....

The patriots would beg to differ.

Can't remember the name, but SOS had a RB who converted to LB his Sr year and was a major contributor. Maybe it was a rare occasion that it worked... but it worked. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Was this Eugene Mcaslin, or was it Eli Williams?

Wish him the best. Seems like a good kid. And while I appreciate his willingness to help the team, I'm perfectly fine not having yet another "experiment" possibly having to start or see considerable playing time at a position they aren't suited for. There are definite exceptions to the rule, but it's simply not a recipe for success and typically ends up netting us serviceable-at-best play, something we have to stop settling for.

:exactly:.....Please stop with the plug & play that gets us mediocre play at positions of need.

Not entirely. I just thought a 250 pound guy like him could be good in short yardage or goal line situations since our other LBs are in the 220-230 range. I didn't see him starting or getting significant snaps.
He is behind three walkon LBs on the depth chart, one of whom is taking reps as the emergency DT (and frankly isn't too bad at it IMO).

Time to move on. About 6 or 8 more are in the same boat.

QB. QB is the hardest.
IMO, center is the hardest.

There are some systems (like Creyer's and most options) that require very little thinking on the part of the QB, say perhaps one quick run pass read or give keep read.

The QB often get audibles from the bench in today's game. Centers never do.

Think of it this way, how often do you see a true freshman perform at QB, it's rare but happens (usually when the OC keeps it simple). Center? Never.

They are AT LEAST pretty comparable. MLB, C and QB. If you don't have good ones, your team isn't good. Gotta be strong AND SMART up the middle.

See if you can spot the loser in this video that was moved from Tight End to Linebacker

Wilber was stuck behind Chris Faulkner & Mike Mularkey. Easily the best position switch in Gator history.

I think Warren Sapp was a TE originally. As much as I dislike scUM and smh at him many times, he was a great DT.

Who could forget fan favorite Donald Douglas?
Freshman quarterback Donald Douglas, impressed by Kyle Morris` long-range passing Saturday, decided to limber up after Monday`s practice. With wide receivers Terence Barber and Tony Lomack running deep patterns, Douglas completed pass after pass, usually throwing the ball 65 yards or farther. But quarterback coach Bill Cubit wasn't pleased. Fearing Douglas might throw out his arm, Cubit ordered him to stop. Douglas said OK, but he was still holding a ball in his hand. Cubit leaned over and whispered to a trainer: "I`ll bet you $10 he goes ahead and throws it anyway."
