I thought there was some good info here that others would find valuable. Enjoy! ...or complain. Whatever.

Thanks euro, problem is I learned here that Mullen is just gonna repeat the same thing he did a MS and none of this matters. We have already lost.

Mullen ran plays during the spring game that he liked to run at MSU.

Here's his take on the probability of us winning an SEC Championship or a National Championship.

He talks about the concepts that Mullen has used in the past, especially at MSU, and that he employed in our spring game. Most of those concepts involved...

            ...wait for it...

            ...passing plays!

He also talked about how Mullen pushes his QBs to master fundamental plays and concepts before allowing more complex plays. He specifically mentioned quick slants! It will be nice to use slants!

He pointed out plays that seem to allow the QB and WR to read man or zone coverage and exploit what the defense gives.

It's a good video, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it.

I never said it was a bad video. I simply gave the short version.

I completely agree that it will be nice to see quick slants and pass plays that don't take 3 full seconds to develop.

I'm not sure why you think we'll pass the ball more under Mullen. The problem with Mac/Nuss offense wasn't the run/pass ratio, which was about 53% run and 47% pass on average. It was they sucked so their were simply fewer plays run. Mullen will be a little bit more run heavy. Probably something like 58% run and 42% pass. Some seasons, including last year at MSU and 2008 at UF, Mullen was a little over 60% run. Basically Mullen will run the ball more than pass it more than Mac/Nuss, but less than Muschamp who would prefer to never throw it if possible. The only reason why it would appear that we pass more is if the offense is successful thus getting the chance to run more plays.

I have no problem with Mullen's offense or his run/pass ratio. My biggest concern is when the game is tight, his play calling gets predictable because he likes to go with the safe plays that he believes gives the highest chance for success. That makes sense, but the problem with this is his playbook in tight games gets much smaller and defenses have less to account for. This mostly worked with Tebow at QB with the exception of Ole Miss in 2008 or Auburn in 2007, but we don't have anything close to Tebow/Harvin on this team. Mullen's track record against teams with equal or more talent are not encouraging. Hopefully he'll get that talent.

You might be correct, but I expect that he will get his team to eat what is there. If our offensive line was like the 72 Dolphins and we had their backs I might run 90% of the time, we don't. What we do potentially have is receivers who can get open and hopefully a QB that can deliver the ball to them. Time will tell.

Last year with top 25 talent which he recruited himself, he was the 110th passing offense.

Right in the MacNuss and Mushchump wheelhouse.

You realize that if someone hadn't once again made a sarcastic comment about how Mullen IS going to pass the ball (after your post doing the same thing), even though it didn't really make sense, then the 2nd statement wouldn't have been made? Its 'old' to you bc you don't like it. Personally, I think people acting like a few highlights from a spring game is more indicitive than his last season as a HC is getting old.

There were some cool things shown regarding his running game scheme in the video. Brings up an interesting idea of Ivey staying at tackle, bc of the flexibility he'd bring pulling, for example. The fact that we'll run slants wasnt amazing to me.

The word coming out of spring and the Mullen speaking events is they are going to move Heggie to Center. If that's the case, it seems they're going to leave Ivey at OT. Unless one of the back-up OT's is ready to start, I can't imagine moving Ivey inside. But I'm not the coach, so who the hell knows?

Patience Grasshoppers! God I hate saying this, but can't we just give the guy a chance before we tie him to the stake. He loves this place and he has some skills...he made chicken soup out of chicken crap at MS. Let's try and give the guy some time.
Look at what he is doing already on the recruiting front. Just the number of blue chip talent he has brought in, and the renewed focus on instate talent is very encouraging. Understand that many of those top talents are waiting to see what we put on the field this fall. If we show improvement and show a winning attitude ...it will draw them in. Excitement breeds more excitement.
He has to play with most of what he was dealt, so may take a couple more cycles to get where we want to be, but I'm confident Mullens is the guy for now.

Well, Franks really cant throw a slant unless its behind his intended target. Not sure what we will do about that. I would guess that if he is asked to throw them, he will likely complete about 30% of them and there will be several INTs.
