"With Lane Kiffin heading to Florida Atlantic after the College Football Playoff, Alabama has elected to promote from within the Tide's staff.

Head coach Nick Saban announced Friday in a team release that former USC coach and current Alabama special assistant to the offense Steve Sarkisian will serve as Alabama's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach next season.

"We are pleased to be able to hire an offensive coordinator with the pedigree and experience of Steve Sarkisian,” Saban said in a statement. “He has a tremendous offensive mind and is someone we believe will do a great job of teaching and developing our football team on the offensive side of the ball.

“He has been a great asset to our coaching staff this season and brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to his job. Steve will be a phenomenal addition to our coaching staff and someone who can seamlessly transition into the job with a full understanding of how our organization works.”

USC fired Sarkisian last season after it was alleged he appeared multiple times in his role as coach while under the influence of alcohol. Sarkisian later sought treatment for alcoholism and has since sued USC for firing him over what the suit claims is a medical condition.

Sarkisian, who also was a head coach at Washington before going to USC, is one of five former FBS head coaches on Saban's staff along with Kiffin, Mario Cristobal, Bobby Williams and Mike Locksley.

Alabama will face Sarkisian’s former school, No. 4 Washington, in the Peach Bowl (a CFP semifinal game) on New Year’s Eve in Atlanta."

Alabama does with coaches in college what NE does with cut players in the NFL. A smart move probably.

Bama also has Mike Locksly on their staff. The radio guys here in Jax (Gator alums) are pushing for Mac to hire him as our OC. He is a helluva recruiter and would make a lot of sense. Kiffin also wants him at FAU. But we should be able to pay more than FAU right?

Never mind, what am I thinking. :lmao:

Amazing how :kiffin: and Sark fail miserably and Saban comes in and resurrects them both.

Yeah, this is a good time for us to make a move. But does anyone think our incompetent head coach will do anything smart?

Saban has an incredibly good knack of keeping his coaches in line. Especially taking asshat coaches like Kiffin and tards like Sark and save their careers. Really you can run just about any offense at Bama and succeed. It is more of a talent issue IMO. But they run a similar offense, its just the studs that get it done.
