I used to have that shirt. Not me in the pic, ftr.

But as others have said, cc when used responsibly only makes sense. Using debit or cash is very counterproductive. You’re already absorbing the fees a business incurs for the service he provides regardless. So not getting the benefit(points, miles, cash back) is leaving money on the table. Quick analysis will show you where the bulk of your spending comes from and you can find the exact card that maximizes that. At least one trip a year should be all but paid for.

One trip a year paid for????

Wow.

You must spend a lot of time in the champagne room.

I’m assuming you feel that’s conservative and it should pay for more? It probably would help a little on others, but I usually just let them accrue for one full family trip. I also have other cash back cards that I use for other things besides travel. I’ve run a ton of money through my Amex Blue Cash card, which I’m planning to use for something for me, which is a rarity.

that's actually smarter than what I do...
but I have been using my Best Buy card recently to get some points and then pay that off monthly, so maybe I should continue doing something along those lines.

I used to do this, with my best buy card, ended up getting a new TV, Soundbar, PS4 (the year they came out), all at the same time no cash out of pocket. Would pay off all the purchases made on it, ever thursday.

MasterCard. I can’t imagine carrying enough cash to cover the gas fill-ups.
On my recent work trip to Kauai I rented a 2011 GMC Sierra truck. Through the entire trip I had to fill up the gas tank seven times. The amounts I spent on each tank were $82, $79, $99.50, $97.30, $96.45, $62.50, and $92. Gas prices were typically ~$4.359/gallon. Glad you guys pay your taxes and the government is paying those bills... :bananadance2:

those guys have to import almost everything - really drives up the prices.
why was it a 2011? Is it like Cuba where you would most likely have to rent a DeSoto or a Packard?

Did you add that up to $6,604,750?

I wasn't able to get a reservation from the rental car companies for the whole time I was going to be there so my management, and our Government customer authorized me to rent via turo.com. Truck cost me $250/day to rent. I had it for 27 days.

$250 a day?!? Holy fuchs...

27 x 250 = $6,750
= more than the car is worth.

Not really. KBB.com appraises that truck at between $15,000-18,000. That is a lot of $$ to pay for a rental though but not even close to the prices that I heard of some paying...

I'm heading to Knoxville in a couple of weeks - my company has a negotiated rate with National.
The quote I'm getting back is about $45 - 47 a day.
Did Hawaii sell all of their rental cars to pay off a gambling bet, maybe a statewide meth habit?

They sold about 60% of their rental fleet because of the pandemic. Now they are having trouble replacing the cars because of the chip issue that is plaquing the world thanks to China. With tourism ramping up drastically there just aren't enough vehicles for everyone. That is driving the rental costs up.

I pay for everything on credit card and then pay that off monthly. I (typically) travel weekly for work so I have 3 cards…airline, hotel, and then one that gets really good points on all purchases for everything else. Accumulate a ton of points we use for travel.
