it may take a decade for USF to recover from Willie taggart. Its the sports version of syphilis.

They also landed a particularly bad time with Central Florida doing well, and resurgent Florida Atlantic and Butters fighting for the low 3 stars.

Kerwin's offense at USF, his first season as an FBS coordinator, scored 17 or fewer points in 7 out of 12 games. You want that around our offense just because he went here?
Eeehhhh USF was a trainwreck and falling apart at the seams. His offenses were good before that

Nope, we are judging a guy's entire career over one year... but only if it fits the argument and personal bias... you know how it works here Slevin.

Personally, Strong has never impressed me and his flameout at USF and UT before that was not a surprise. If you ask me why, I'm not sure I have a good answer. I seem to recall some of his defenses here having a hard time getting off the field while lacking discipline - lots of stupid penalties.

Lke all Gators everywhere, the thought of Kerwin being something akin to an SOS, part 2 is soooo tempting. And while I agree that perhaps he was thrust into an impossible situation at USF, the performance of his offense there was downright disturbing.

All that said, having them on the staff can't hurt. If I'm not mistaken, Strong was pretty strong on the recruiting trail so maybe that'll rub off on the current staff, and Kerwin's offenses prior to USF lit up defenses. Certainly his insights in the quarterback room could be helpful. So, I approve of adding both of these guys to our staff.

A funny aside: Strong is literally the spitting image of my brother-in-law - so much so that when I sent a snap of him to my sister, her response was, "holy crap". Head and face only. Probably half his size, my brother-in-law is a bit of a nebishy, though widely published, PhD-holding virologist, so head and face is where the similarities end....

Anyone who doesnt like Charlie Strong is a communist, child molester, klansman or worse.

At the very least you should appreciate him using minor conference talent to destroy Muskstank and begin to open the eyes of the few intelligent fans we have.

Dude he had Teddy Bridgewater...what else did Strong do after he left? Nada...

People keep talking about his defenses when he was DC here, well what about '07 when it was one of the worst defenses in the history of this program...keep slobbing on this guys knob. Strong hasnt been relevant in years and wont be. Now as an analyst i like the hire

Personally I think they'd make great additions to the staff, what could it hurt? The more off the field "analysts" the better. The only thing that would worry me about bringing Strong back would be the plan on promoting him to DC if Grantham left. I want Strong as a DC about as much as I was Bell as a OC.

Agree. If he wants to sit in a dark room and break down film all day for our staff...go for it. No problem. As for doing anything on the field related, no thanks, I'd rather stab myself in the eye

Higdon seems to think right now it’s unlikely for Strong to take it but he has not told Mullen no yet. His closest coaching relationship has been strong dating way way back. It’s why scout moved him from Florida to TX site when he coached there...and came back to co Bering UF when strong was fired.

You're getting a like for the stab yourself in the eye part.

I would agree though if Strong had a history of being unable to force Georgia or LSU to punt more than once in a game then he should absolutely not be anywhere near our defense.

As previously mentioned , it feels like a preemptive move for if Grantham bolts after next season. Then just slide Charlie to DC. He may have not impressed as a HC, but if he can focus just on D with our talent, it could be good.

I don't recall any beef with Charlie and UF. I do recall him saying that he thinks that racism is why he didn't get a head coaching job sooner, when he went to UL.. I don't have a source handy though.
Maybe all the people that did not hire him as a head coach were smarter than some thought.

Did everyone forget the '07 defense and how bad it was? Chuckles got by with a lot of talent in the championship years, more than we have on the current roster. The game has long passed him by. No thanks

You mean when we lost a ton of talent from the 06 Championship D, used a bunch of TFr and So talent that won us another Championship in 08? Just one year after the growing pains? You mean THAT Chuckles? Just making sure I understand who you’re talking about.
