Not sure why yzerman went there other than its his team. Maybe he wanted a challenge
He made the Bolts what they are and what they have been for the last 10 years, winners. He went home to try and do it again. An NHL rebuild is a 5 year project, we'll see how he does.

And his family is there according to what was reported down here, there were some family issues (illness I believe).

I don't think his wife and kids ever moved to Tampa, they stayed at their house in Bloomfield Hills (where a BUNCH of his former Red Wing teammates also live) to keep the kids in school there and because of their parents. Steve commuted back and forth between Tampa and Detroit, several times per week a lot of the time. And the Lightning and Red Wings are VERY similar organizations in terms of their ownership, but given the combination of his family in Detroit, being the GM and working for/with Ken Holland and the Ilithch family again was almost always a given.

He made them but i think our current GM is what put us over the top. Yzerman never went out and got guys like Coleman goodrow maroon etc JBB went out at the deadline and got what they needed

I have no complaints about Jon Cooper. Pay that man what he wants. We are $18m over the cap and none of that money is wasted $. Maybe Stamkos at this point, but come on, he is the face of the bolts program. I realize that assembling that much talent in one place and being able to actually play them with that much of a overage of the cap isn't a Jon Cooper thing, but coaching all that talent is. Its hard to have that much talent on the same team and keep everything together and insynch. He does and he does it great. Next year is going to be a huge change for us as we try to get under the cap and we are going to need Cooper coaching.

Yes, BriseBois has done well... after Yzerman handed him 8 year contracts with Stamkos and Hedman, a 7 year with Killorn, Vasilevskiy... drafted Kucherov and Point, brought up Gourde from the minors, traded for Sergachev... Stevie Y clearly left a bare cupboard. ;)

I didn't say he did and harbor no ill will for him leaving. And this isnt a knock on yzerman. He built the foundation JBB put the last few bricks in

And he spent 8 years as Yzerman's AGM... after Yzerman brought him up from Syracuse. ;) He learned from a master, and again, like the Red Wings, the Lightning are a GREAT front office organization.

Identical game so far. Bolts playing better than the habs with nothing to show for it, powerplay can't score

I guess im a hockey noob. I expect those stars to score is all

That's not how it works  Kucherov is managing to work himself free for chances despite being targeted. He's fighting for pucks deep, and is chipping in on the defensive side of the ice. He's actually had a good game so far aside from an errant pass or two.
