Recruiting staff, mostly. We have a handful of staffers (Begley and a few others) while UGA, Ohio State, Alabama, and a few other programs have dozens of staffers dedicated strictly to recruiting. We could add 5 staffers for under $500k (w/ a $60-80k salary, plus benefits, which is a decent living in Gainesville for, likely, a young person). Some of the money is travel expenses, but I'm not sure these other schools are spending $1 million+ on just travel expenses.

Nailed it. These guys have a army of recruiters, as in that's their only job. Dan will not fight the powers that be to attain one and in the miracle event that he did, it would not be allowed.

really the only positive thing that Butters did the whole time he was here was demand a full size practice facility, a standalone, and other upgrades.

in the end this is really what killed Butters was not his conservative ass offense, as much as we hated that and his pitiful recruiting. what got him fired and whatthe administration hated him for wanting to be an elite school and calling them the slumlords that they are.

imagine how hilarious the Foley version of 1/3 of a practice field would have been. And the two-story trailer slid in between the current buildings that was the Foley standalone.

on the other hand, imagine if we purchased these facilities back when we were a top two revenue program and when the buildings would have cost probably a tenth of what they are today

If he hadn’t give Massengale a raise we could have hired errbody, lol

Mullen doesn’t need those folks because he is smarter than all.

This is funny, Feldman spoke w/ coaches from different conferences and asked what they didn't like about recruiting:

This is in the article @BMF linked:

SEC coach: Florida should be killing it but they’re not. FSU and Miami stink right now.

We all know this even other coaches except ours.

West Virginia, GT, Purdue, Indiana and Iowa State. Just a handful of teams that have officially pulled in front of us.

Another way of looking at it, we are closer to Tulane, Arkansas State and Navy in class ranking than we are to Alabama and georgia.

Did you get that? Navy. Kids are almost as inclined to commit to a school that may get them killed as they are to play for Dan Mullen.

Down to #34 nationally on Rivals (behind Purdue and just ahead of UCF), 12th in the SEC (only ahead of Auburn and Vandy) and 23rd in avg star rating. Unfathomable.

I'm gonna be honest guys. This is one of the saddest threads I've clicked on, on this site. And we've eulogized a few people.

Things are going to spiral badly until he’s gone either this year or next.

Gators Breakdown said no change at QB. AR is gone for sure. More bad news for the pile soon enough I’m sure.

It’s only going to continue to get worse until then, and even after he’s shown the door and IF we get a better staff it’ll be another two or three years of rebuild and clean up. Even then we’ll still be light years behind elite schools….

But that assumes the UA gives a crap, which they don’t. The sophisticated leftists in academia hate sports culture if they can’t bend it to their agenda. They bear the responsibility of foisting one trash coach after another on us for years.

Spectacularly.

Neither he nor the administration care. They’ll give us some one like him or worse next.

This program has zero direction or momentum. None.

We are dead in the water and there is no excuse for any of this phuckery.

I jokingly said going into the season that if you take the quirky Covid year out of the equation, this is year 3 for Mullen, and often when things really go the wrong way if you’re not the right coach. The whole thing has set up exactly like that. Legal trouble over the summer that was intended to be swept under the rug, guys out, lack of direction and an overall pissy attitude with the fans and media because things have turned out much closer to what millions of us had said than what the coach insisted. You can see it in his eyes. He’s livid that he’s being roasted in something so simple as QB choice and knows he’s staring at a second straight declining product. Broken record mode here, but it’s basically right on schedule. It just doesn’t take long for things to go south here.

Dont be so melodramatic. Rutgers, Temple, Maryland, a few schools in StL... those schools are more likely to get you killed than Navy.

I understand there does appear to be a pretty good chance of spilling hot coffee on your chest when some punk does a fly by on your tower though.

Mullen is going to end up doing more damage to our program than any of the other Shi**y coaches. Another decommit. Stricklin obviously should have been fired weeks ago for the Women's B ball coach stuff. In this day and age when guys are losing their jobs for much less, it's baffling that these guys don't have more heat on them. Mullen has to go. Fired at end of season. It can't get amy worse. Our program is in a nose dive. Stricklin should not be the guy to choose the next HC. He should resign or be fired. Let Spurrier head the coaching search.

Never overlook the enormous power of ego-driven incompetence.
