Combine the play-off, with the portal (free agency) , NIL (pay for play), and (rumor) no scholarship limits or coaching limit ... and it is truly NFL minor league (not in the Kitna kind of way).
Except the NFL has restrictions on all those things.... Salary cap, number of players cap, coaches on the field cap (I think). They even have a prohibition against minors playing. The age of consent for the league is 20 I believe.

I thought 8 would work. 12 is too many.

Now they need to eliminate the non-D-1 games.

That actually makes that argument hold even less water. At 12 teams, if a conference winner that doesn’t get a first round by happens to win it all, they will have played 17 games by years end. You think they should all be against P5 teams, or that an FCS breather isn’t justified? That an NFL schedule for collegiate athletes, most of whom aren’t being paid.

I've said this before - 6 power conference champions +2.
No non- D1 games.

That’s still 16 FBS games. I don’t see the connection between adding playoff games and having to increase the difficulty of our schedule. Just the fact that Michigan has gone undefeated (I think) the last two seasons and got crushed by uga, and will again, says it all. They have played 2 Top 20 teams this year, while we’ve played 6. So sprinkling in an FCS team here or there, while not my favorite either, is the least of my concerns.

You could play 10 or 11 games and eliminate the Confrence Championship.

It does not matter. 8 is just one more game.

They are going to 12 which is nuts.

8 was the correct number but I'm sure they wanted to be assured a non-power 5 got in and 8 probaly wouldn't do that. I'm also not sure I would want a bye before playing a top team that just won a big playoff game the week before.
I think the SEC was one of the main conferences pushing for 12 once the decision was made to expand it. They didn’t want automatic qualifiers with only 6-8 teams. They were trying to ensure there would be enough spots for 3-4+ SEC teams. I recall Sankey saying as much.

Just the opposite. The four teams with byes get a rest week prior to playing a team that just played a good team the week before.

I have said it before and i will say it again. If you are going to 12, just stay at 4, because the top four will be in the semifinals routinely due to the bye and the fact that they are better than the teams that just survived a tough game.

On occasion this format will produce an interesting Dark Horse that due to injuries or blooming late in the season can run the table on the other teams. The extra week might make for some overconfident play on behalf of the presumed favorites. Will enjoy watching 2nd tier SEC teams destroy the rest of the field, on occasion.

:Im ok. I always thought 8 was perfect but 12 allows for teams that may have started slow but are now playing MUCH better. College basketball proves that. NIL is going to even the playing field. We can all legally pay for players instead of watching the dogs and bammers doing the wink wink nudge nudge anymore. As for opening the wallet TAM proved that aint the panacea we thought. Its gonna be much different but the coaches that can play the portal well and keep players happy are gonna have a leg up. Just let meatchickn beat the dwags........dont want the ballickers go back to back.

The biggest thing this will do is hurt really good teams via injuries that they wouldn't have had to deal with if not for the extra games

As long as that team is never Tennessee. ... And probably Georgia too. (But they are in any playoff now regardless).
