Okay, well he responded to my comment in an email. Here it is:

As underwhelmed as I am by this staff so far, they are clearly moving in the right direction on the DL.

Gone or soon to be gone are many of the 3rd & long pass rush specialists:
Cox
Chief Borders,
David Reese (#4),
Lloyd Summerall

From the Gator Country article:

This leaves Antwuan Powell-Ryland and Jack Pyburn as the only two left at the position. Powell-Ryland took over as the starter when Brenton Cox... (dismissed)

Probably no coincidence that these two are 20 pounds bigger than the rest too, although Pyburn is VERY raw at this point. Remember he was a middle linebacker last year. (So was Chief. I feel terrible for him but I guess he should have hit the weight room when they said you are moving to DL.)

Princely is probably questionable in this list too, though it would surprise me if he moves back to Weakside/ Rush depending on whether we stay 3 or 4 man front. 245 won't do. He better find the weight room this offseason, if he isn't forced out. Wouldn't surprise me if he goes wherever his lil brother goes, who I don't believe is being recruited by us at all.

Note: Grantham claimed to play a 3-4 but really it was a 4-3. The rush almost always rushed and played the edge like the WDE would, hand in the dirt in a DL stance.

Billy & Toney historically has played 3 big DL and a true OLB, with either of the 2 OLB blitzing or dropping into coverage somewhat randomly. Obviously none of our blitzbackers are capable in coverage so they have mostly blitzed this year. I won't be surprised if personnel caused that change in Toney's philosophy and we change back with more of a true OLB in the future with flexible fronts.

Back to "Donkey likes big butts" and so does Billy, there are no collection of 220 pound edge hybrids in this class:

Will Norman 6-5 290
Isaiah Nixon 6-5 225
Gavin Hill 6-4 260
TJ Searcy 6-5 250
Kelby Collins 6-5 258
Kamran James 6-6 265

Other than Nixon, there aren't any Grantham-sized kids. And to be clear, I'm ok with one or two of those guys on the roster, but not 10-12. The rest can add an easy 20 pounds and be at great SEC playing size.

Also note that the coaches are still hunting other big butts for the 2023 recruiting class and are looking for transfers too.

No matter what she told you, size always matters. Those bitches lied to Grantham.
I didn’t realize he was watching. Hey Donk, miss you. Thanks for the take.

Gotta be honest - this would be my leader in the clubhouse. CBN should have some relationship, even if only from shaking hands after games and running in the same circles. This kid has exceeded expectations in every way and shows very good ball skills in a offense very similar to what we seem to want to run.

His final comment "I will play in the bowl game and finish what I started". Heck yeah, number one on my list sure BN is already reaching out.

His OC played qb for billy at Clemson back in the day. There's a connection there already.

I’m happy for him and hope it’s a great fit at Chattanooga, but the guys leaving through the portal are constantly proving the point about how bad the talent level was. Have any of the guys leaving this go round gone to a better program? Maybe I missed it, but I don’t recall any.

McMillion being offered by the canes and Wright being offered by Colorado are the only P5 offers I’ve seen. I’d consider both a step down.

In @ltraz defense, the so called "composite talent" lists all put us at 12-15 in the country. Not elite, but better than most of the teams we played this season.

Are those team ratings that far off?

Could it be that the players attitudes and habits (as a team) has more to do with it?

Could it be that the existing players (especially on defense) were very talented but just the wrong mix of individuals?

And, could it be, BN and staff made a strategic decision, early on, to put most of their efforts into developing recruiting rather than coaching and game planning this year? (I prefer to think this is the case)

A lot of my questions regarding this staff will be answered on ESD. (And portal).
