It’d be nice to see NV back as a regular, but the tone of his last post gives me pause. I don’t know of many looking for “Rainbows and Unicorns” unless those terms somehow lump those who are happy with recruiting and want to see the difference a year makes into some type of intellectually inferior, testosterone deprived group of fanboys. The alternate extreme might be those categorized as wanting Billy tarred and feathered before being run out of town on a rail for failing to make it to the SECCG and a 10 win season with a stacked roster of talented players.

Truth be told, most of us are somewhere just left or right of center, unless we get triggered (substitute “drunk” if need be) over a loss or something in the games that didn’t happen as we thought it should and then all hell breaks loose. Then comes the incessant over the top stuff, either wanting Billy gone or canonized that interferes with rational reviews of the game, at best, or erupts into insults or threats at worst. Some of each is to be expected, but it’s been regular since game 2 and hasn’t shown signs of taking a break.

This is why I asked “What the Hell’s going on out here?” and I’m understanding more through the posts. I’ve dialed back my competitive fire quite a bit (my wife got tired of the hollering and broken stuff) and get my joy beyond wins by dissecting the games (with everyone’s help) to better figure why we won or lost and just talking football. I’m at a place in life where I believe positive something beats negative anything, so long as you’re willing to take an unbiased look. That goes for wins and losses. I had 33 years of fussing, cussing, lying, threatening and fighting while in teaching, coaching and school administration. Too often lately, what has gone on here has felt like a bad day at school. Sure you’ve got to have some of that stuff, but not every day. It gets in the way of the enjoyment that should be the focus of being a fan. I appreciate you all.

Now, as for you Mr. SoFla Gator, what’s with this “Solloxo” reference? Are you implying that Ox is Sicilian? I know he can be that way sometimes, but NV is hardly “sleeping with the fishes” a la Luca Brasi. He can come back to Ox’s La Cosa Nostra anytime he wants.

(I think I got your reference correct!)
@cover2 You are the calming voice of reason. I really love this board and what we have here. Hell if we go back to 2014 some of us were surfing around wondering what the heck had happened. But Ox pulled us here and it's been great, saving us from the GSMB.

Many of us Old Timers like you say try to get something positive out of what we've been dealt. But like I said earlier in the thread some of those on here (not sure if they're new posters or not) really just take it to another level in a toxic way. Simply if for a different opinion and it goes back and forth and on and on. I feel everyone here can bring something to board, period. Like I say many times many, you do you. Someone mentioned earlier that the older we get the less BS we put up with. That's true, but we also handle it somewhat more diplomatically.

All this to say I hope that we don't lose any of our posters. We got rid of Alvin "the dork" York a few years back, so I've been happy ever since. With that all can bring something to spice it up without duking it up (virtually). Really right now I am not happy that we are not winning like we should. But I have watched UF football for almost 50 years, early 70's (Gaffney/Dubose) and have seen A LOT. Right now I am more anxious about UF and the path Napier has us on rather than worried. Many of us call for this total demolition and rebuild. Well it has been demolished, so let's see what he can do. I feel there will be some positives that will help us move to better days.

As always, Go Gators!

I was born in 1968. Don't go dying on us now :lol2:

I promise

My dad drove for the Gainesville ambulance company while in school after 8 years in the Air Force. The university would hire the company to be on the sidelines in case of a serious injury. That’s where I first saw Reaves throw to Alvarez
So 1968 (and ‘69) were good years for a little kid to get introduced to football.

Hell, we've been at each other's throats worse than this. This board can take it. I think ox is usually on the more critical side of things and some folks don't know how to take it now that he's on the other side. That being said, I don't wanna lose NV. I don't think I can live without him.

Agree with almost everything. I don’t think I’ve ever been very belligerent to anyone here and can see the point of view of those a little more optimistic than me on the Napier hire. There’s no denying he is upgrading the roster and Jimmy and Joe’s are definitely the most direct path to success. But with 2 recruiting classes and 2 years access to the 3000 players in the portal you own your record in your second year, and if we are going into next year expecting to be at the bottom of the east why bother? And with what TCU is doing it’s awfully hard to make the argument that it’s unreasonable to expect wins or blame Mullen for losses next year.
I don't have any answers. All I know is Mullen started out winning pretty good, but we all know how that ended. TCU could be trash in 2 years after their roster turns over some. Who knows? All I do know is I see a plan in motion. I see the way BN is trying to build this team. When I heard him talk about each of the recruits that signed their LOIs, I got a really good idea of what kind of players he's looking for and I like what he's doing. We'll find out when we either see more of the exact same, or if things are looking different and improved. It's gonna be a long off-season full of speculation from all kinds of sources. Should be interesting.

A couple of days ago one of the Pointer Sisters died... it really hit me because I'll always associate "I'm So Excited" with that SEC championship celebration in 1984. I was a kid but very familiar with the losing and the 'wait til next year', and that trip up from Lakeland to the not-yet-Swamp with three kids in the back of the ol' family Chevette (the back, not the back seat... yeah, that was our biggest car) was pretty cathartic. It was the start of a mostly great run... and I couldn't help but think of the symbolism because my Gator joy has been dying a slow death lately too. At least when these last few clowns were losing, there was hope of a quick exit and the temporary salve of a replacement. None of that right now.

And there are some really smart people on here who see it 180 out from that... we'll know soon enough, and trust me, I want to believe that the facilities, added staff, SEC-sized D-Linemen, culture of accountability and all that other stuff that Napier brings will be bigger than the failures we talk about a ton on here. But what makes GC great is that there is every type here... if it's truly a "digital sports bar" atmosphere, there are no mind camps and people can dish whatever is on their mind. I get that it's tough with it being a public forum, but when things suck and you're losing to Vandy and FSU, the public discourse isn't gonna be too positive.

And like a sports bar, sometimes there will be a scuffle... then it's over, on to the next day. Hoping that everybody fights nice, because it's boring as hell when everyone agrees all the time.
