@CDGator

To the original question, I’d skip all right now. But of those options, midtown East side is the safest, even in current climate. Still can access the Met, MoNH, Rockefeller, Central Park Zoo, etc. within a short walk or cab ride. Plus access to restaurants. All that said, my family used to make a trip to New York almost every year, and have not been in three years.
Thanks.
Son is taking a school trip in April so I have no control over where they stay. I do have a lot of concerns.

Nice view! Our air bnb is in walking distance to the space needle and we won’t have a car. If you get a chance, ask some “locals” about safety in the touristy places.

My co-workers and I have been walking around- there are some homeless folks but nothing to worry about from what we’ve seen
But I’ll ask about the area around the Needle.

Just spoke to the waiter-
He said the space needle area is congested with tourists and locals so it’s safe to walk around- no problem. Might be a little more dicey at night but he said even then that part of town is safe at night - relatively speaking.

Great. Appreciate the insight.

Funny side note, if you read Fox news(it was on CNN as well), there was a story about Bernie Sanders accidentally walking into a TikTok. The picture is in front of the Omni Berkshire Place on 52nd at Madison. If you remember me ranting back in summer 2020 about Covid closures killing businesses and affecting friends in NY, that was one of those businesses and the doorman pictured was the guy named Lenny I mentioned knowing.

Point being, their reopening is a good sign. And that whole areas there, which is likely where a school trip would stay for central convenience is really very safe. Should be fine.

Ah - my sincere apologies
With all the back and forth with the various CD trips, sofla waxing nostalgic and Bernie Sanders.. I forgot what this thread was even about

The past few days have been a blur for mw as well. But if memory serves me, I think @CDGator and family are moving, and they’ve narrowed it down to Philly or Myrtle Beach.

Plans changed - found a quaint slice of a sidewalk that just opened up in San Fran! Lucky us. The crap app shows there’s not much poop on that block. Score!

I spent 4 years in Atlanta (1997-2001), partly for law school and partly for my first year of work. It was pleasant at the time, but I have no regrets on letting my Georgia Bar license lapse. F that hellscape.

I lived there from’96 - ‘99 and I agree that it was pretty safe downtown and especially safe as long as you stayed in Alpharetta.
I would never move back there nor would I consider going downtown again.

I spent a lot of time downtown ATL - mainly around the Atlanta apparel mart.
The walk through downtown from the Marriott to that area was always an adventure running the gauntlet of the local “residents”.
I finally just opened up a training center near the perimeter Mall so I could get away from there.

Should we consider your trip to Seattle a success or are you dead?

Why would I visit any of those cities when I have my own Blue Hell hole less than 10 minutes from me?
