He actually had more top 200 offensive players in 2012 than defensive. 2013 had high rated guys like Taylor, Robinson, and Fulwood. The development for those guys might not have been there, but he did bring in some offensive talent (especially by recruiting ranking). Not forgetting guys still in the NFL like Brissett and this feels awful to say, Driskel.

It was his interference with the offense, and not necessarily the recruiting (at least numbers wise) that sunk him. When top 10 at their position offensive players don’t work out at the rate they did under him, that’s probably more than just recruiting. Meaning coaching.

For reference, we have only 2 top 250 offensive players committed for 2024 currently. Lagway and Amir Jackson.
2012 had 7 of 22 on offense and 2013 12 of 29 and his worst position recruiting was OL, forcing McElwain to reach deep in 2014 for 7 OL 2014, most of whom had little chance of playing SEC football. I remember feeling Muschamp would not hire the best assistants, for whatever reasons, and that his lack of recruiting OL started the lean years for OL depth.

Just talking on the top end, I wasn’t clear enough on that. It wasn’t like he was defense only and didn’t go after offensive top talent was my point. He definitely tried to get top on both. Also, 2014 class was Muschamp reaching deep after his failed recruiting and losses in depth.

Absolutely. I almost mentioned that as a balance. I’m just saying what it looks like when the coach is fired won’t be what it looks like afterwards. So there’s just no more stocking talent in today’s landscape. It’s an interesting hypothesis, but do we win the 2006 title if players were free to transfer back then? I would say no.
Yeah, I do think we win in 06, and I think we would have had a shot of winning in 05 too, because the portal works both ways.

Meyer was an elite recruiter, and maybe the hottest name in coaching, and Florida was still a hot name in football. He could easily have retooled the entire roster with experienced talent that was a better fit and eager to go to work in his system before he coached his first down in 05.

On3 just CBd Ox to SwampAss as moderator of their political forum. (I would pay to watch that unfold. We're talking real money.)
From his profile

“Dangerously fast first step followed by solid sustained effort. Sees the field well. Gap discipline can be a problem as aggression can distract. Plays through the whistle. Prone to illegal use of hands penalties.”

My favorite parts of this video is the instant double cut he made to get to the QB. Also, he stops on a dime, changes direction, and explodes. He plays DE/LB at 230 and he makes all of the skill players look slow.

He looks a lot like the guy we missed out on last year - Harold Perkins

Hope he comes close to that next year.

EDIT - Just saw On3 noting he runs a 4.9. Seems much quicker on the field, but if so, he is definitely not like Perkins (sub 4.5).

I know we "joke"...haha... about coming in second to schools, but even if he doesn't flip, we are getting him here. And we're getting other guys' interest that not long ago we had no shot at.

It would be insane if Billy were to flip this kid. Getting him back again just shows how hard the staff is working. If he were such a lock, he'd shut his recruitment down. But something keeps him in the mix. This is going to be a good class. Players know it and want to be a part of it.

Any idea who the other 5* visiting today?? @GatorJ
