I've had the good fortune (or misfortune, as the case may be) of being in many legendary stadiums (stadia?) for some of their loudest moments and legendary field-stormings. For example, FSU stadium is often half-empty and quiet, but I've been there when it was at its best, both as an erector set and after they bricked it in. Miami games in the new stadium suuuuuck but I've seen them there as well as in the old Orange Bowl when they were at their best (it was shabby, falling apart, and stunk of urine). I was at Tennessee when we boat-raced them and it was quiet as a library and I was there when they finally beat us on a missed kick and stormed the field.

This is going to test my memory.

Obviously the Swamp for nearly all of its loudest moments.

FSU, Orange Bowl, Whatever they're calling Dolphins Stadium now, RayJay, Citrus Bowl, Rose Bowl, Gator Bowl (Jax), Alabama, Sugar Bowl, Auburn, Atlanta, Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina, Kentucky, Vandy, and I'm drawing a blank.

My rankings of these stadiums at their best:

Loudest were LSU and UF (both high and steep-sided). LSU was louder on the 50 yard line, UF was louder in the endzones. That's the top tier.

Next tier Tennessee, Bama (before Saban spoiled them), Auburn, FSU (mid 90s).

I accept that Autzen is loud even though I've never been there. Again, it's a function of stadium geometry. It's steeper plus they have those panels over the press box area that keep the noise in. If Miami ever gets good again, that stadium could be loud because they partially roofed over the stands and I suspect it could have a similar affect.

As far as fanbases go, yes, we are different. I haven't been to many B1G stadiums, but we've played them in many Bowl games so I've gotten to know them--Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Ohio State, Penn State...we are not the same. I generally like them, but we are not the same. Least favorite fan bases? Miami and WVA.

Alex.
thats a great list. Sounds like you know the south east stadiums well. The rose bowl is a joke, I have been there many times and its just worn down and flat. You can't see anything. The Coliseum is even worse. Rice-Eccles has the shape and design to make it loud. It has been called the hornets nest before. Hopefully tomorrow it is loud again.

Thanks again for the info, I love reading the different perspectives and appreciate you sharing yours.

Yeah, uhhh, no. Not really.

We can argue football and loud stadiums but not academics.

Utah and Florida aren't in the same class academically. We're a lot smarter than you. No offense. I'm sure you tried your best.

Alex.
I have read this board. If it’s any indication of brilliance, then I disagree.

Yes for undergrad Florida is rated higher and a great school. Utah unfortunately focuses on graduate programs.

However, with a quick search we are similar with medical schools and both Utah and Florida are AAU, which is by far the best metric.

Now I'm prepared to flush you even before the game.

Michigan's stadium blows for noise, but I have to put that as much on the fans as the stadium, and to generalize, I'll pin this same criticism on all Big 10 venues... they just flat out don't know how (or care) to cheer like the SEC does.

In an SEC stadium, fans will make NOISE for EVERY down of the ENTIRE game. At Michigan (and Big 10), they will make noise on THIRD down and basically blow off 1st and 2nd. You can see/hear it on TV.

As a kid growing up in Michigan, I just didn't "get" the SEC thing. Hell, we never saw you on TV pre-cable (so up until mid-80s) other than for a bowl game we didn't care about the SEC and how in the fuk were we supposed to know where an "Auburn" or a "Clemson" were? Made no sense to use Midwesterners. Then I went to UF. When I'd go back to Michigan, I'd tell people, "You just don't get it. If you do ONE thing in your life, go to ANY major SEC rivalry game and tell me what you honestly think." Well, (and you're going to groan), but when Dan Enos started coaching in the SEC, and his brothers and other HS friends came down (and I linked up with them for one Alabama and one Arkansas game, neither vs UF), they were like, "OK, we get it."

Wow, someone is a bit insecure about their stadium.

Glad to hear you got degrees from both. They are both great schools. I hope after tomorrow that UF runs through the sec.

I agree, SLC is awesome. I am not sure why the personal attack, but oh well. Have fun tomorrow and hope to see you at the game.
You have to remember what Alex said. The whole point of this message board is to set a tone of a bar-like atmosphere. Imagine a few buddies sitting around in a bar busting each other's chops.

Similar experience for my cousin who went to UCLA back when they were pretty good. Visited me in Gainesville and got to witness 1995 Tennessee game with the Lawrence Wright hit and the 7 unanswered touchdowns in the monsoon.

You’d be wrong.

I don’t blame you though. The real intelligence level around here is pretty well camouflaged by the barroom banter and our culture of misspellings and malapropisms (we love smoking mirrors and escape goats).

There’s half a dozen posters in this thread that would easily be a touchdown favorite over you in an IQ contest—some a 2 touchdown favorite—and I’d give the points. Again, that’s not the insult it may sound like. I’m not saying you’re dumb. I’m sure you’re well above average in intelligence. We’re just smarter. Don’t take my word for it, feel free to consult the ACTs, SATs, GREs, MCATs, LSATs, etc. and trust the science.

Someone’s really overhyping Florida. We’ve all seen the news reports.

Also, the buddy I’m sitting with is the dean of pharmacy at Florida. They just laughed at your statement. They are loving the banter. We’re both excited about the game tomorrow.

Where did all the uf fans go? There were a couple at the bars on main but they left us. I knew it was a geriatric state but I didn’t expect them to bail by 7pm.

You may feel smarter than this merry band of miscreants and hooligans but facts don’t care about your feelings.

Tell your pharmacist buddy I can’t believe he went to college to learn how to count. :lol2:

Then consider how you couldn’t get into the UF College of Pharmacy (or Law or Medicine etc.) :sadnanner:

Facts are stubborn things my friend. Go back to debating football where you are ranked above us (despite taking that fat L last year). I’m sorry if it hurts your delicate feelings, but you simply can’t compete with us in the academic realm. Try maybe UCF or Cincinnati. You’ll be in the same league as them next year (and catch a game in the Bounce House).

Alex.
