I'm wishing they would just go back to NSD in February. The ESD is just pushing up the same craziness, but putting it into the early bowl game season. The traditional NSD is just another day now. ESD isn't as special due to it's timing and NSD is an also ran.
More importantly, you have to project what a junio MIGHT look like as a senior in HS and then how that MIGHT relate college. The HS all star games were a place where you got to see good on good but these are basically irrelevant now as they are too late in the process. This is why Saban objected to ESD, not because he could buy the ones he wanted.
It benefits the players who’ve made their minds up months in advance, often to focus strictly on their senior season of HS, but then get bombarded for 2+ months by schools trying to flip them. Basically the ones who did it the responsible way. And sometimes they’d cave last minute and make a different, wrong choice(sadly, see Dante Fowler). So from that standpoint, I get it. But yeah it throws things off in evaluating I’m sure. And I totally agree with Douglas that Feb is a joke and should just be killed. Make it one or the other, not both, especially with the portal windows that now exist.
