It does temper enthusiasm sometimes, especially with favorite teams.I agree. Maturity is a drag isn't it?

I agree. His accuracy and ability to move around in the pocket was key. Also he knew when to take off and run, which he did well. The ceiling was really high. It sucks what happened, but he's gone. Time to move on.I just having a sinking feeling we're going to wish we had Will Grier in the second half of the season.
Bringing Danny W. up is a moot point....The game has changed SOOOO much in the last 20 years that what we did then would have a snowball's chance in hell of working now. Try throwing the ball to a spot on the field these days and you'll be watching guys like Derwin James beat your guy to the spot and score on the int.

Ummm, didn't Bronco Nagurski and Jim Thorpe win Heismans??? Doesn't mean anyone covets 155# CFB' players anymore, right? Or runs from a Winged T or Single Wing formations anymore. How many NC's and Heismans were won by teams and players from Wishbone teams....you don't see that working anymore either. There's also a reason SOS didn't run "his offense" at USCe......because it doesn't work anymore.Regardless of how the game has changed since Danny, IMO the high-function
passing game remains throwing to that same timing-spot, all still dependent on
the WR knowing where he's gonna be while the DB doesn't. Still depends on that
good WR "selling his fake" as well as the play-display suggesting run or anything???
else to the DB. Also, how many passes did Danny complete to WRs well covered ?
Danny prevails even in today's environment. Danny adjusts like a Heisman.IMHO.
Don't be such an atheist....
Nowadays DB who is bigger, stronger and faster than said WR, jams his hands under the shoulder pads of WR at the los and completely disrupts "timing" so it really doesn't matter where the QB is going with the ball..... The QB must first find his passing lanes and check to see if WR's are in that tightly closing windows, then QB places football much like throwing a dart, tight compact release no loopiness or wind up, when that route comes open, if not Qb checks to a second window and then a third, which btw usually come open sequentially to each other and not at the same time allowing for a QB to go through what is known as progressions.....Hint, next time you go to a game watch from the endzone and it will all make more sense to you.....= Modern passing game.Lord Concrete, Heisman is one word in my 75-word post ... and it was at the end of
the points. Only a duplicity would hit on that as if it were "the point". I hate that craptitude.
Address the main points i.e. WR knows where to go, DB doesn't / fakes work / and disguising
the play works = that's how modern passing attacks succeed today. Same things Danny used &
Spurrier used.
Are you suggesting that DBs have gotten bigger, stronger, and faster but WRs haven't?Nowadays DB who is bigger, stronger and faster than said WR, jams his hands under the shoulder pads of WR at the los and completely disrupts "timing" so it really doesn't matter where the QB is going with the ball..... In the NFL, maybe. Not college. Shorter QB's excel all the damn time.QB overcoming height is the exception, not the rule.
Used to be emphasis was on better athletes being on the offense....not so much anymore. It's not just DB's, pass rushers now routinely run 4.4-4.5's....do you realize how much stress that puts on a QB who's WR is in a dogfight just to get past the los.....The game has changed. It's literally played at twice the speed it was 25-30 years ago.Are you suggesting that DBs have gotten bigger, stronger, and faster but WRs haven't?
Every coach and every QB we have ever had is 6-0 to start the season. We have lost to Tinerc twice in 20 years and Miami once.Macs record with Grier 6-0
Macs record without Grier 4-4........
Nothing wrong with an insurance policy.
Yep...except the years we play scUM.Ever coach and every QB we have ever had is 6-0 to start the season.
Should we review the heights of the last 10-15 NC QB'S????In the NFL, maybe. Not college. Shorter QB's excel all the damn time.
And Del Rio is 6'1". You guys make it sound like he's 5'4".
What I meant when I said "throw the ball" was actually be able to play quarterback. Read the field and hit your receivers under pressure. You don't have to be 6'5" to do that. You don't have to have a cannon arm to do that.
Name me just one DE or "Buck" that runs a 4.4. Just one.Used to be emphasis was on better athletes being on the offense....not so much anymore. It's not just DB's, pass rushers now routinely run 4.4-4.5's....do you realize how much stress that puts on a QB who's WR is in a dogfight just to get past the los.....The game has changed. Believe it or not most teams other than us have safety's that run 4.4's and 4.5's as well as LBers that run 4.5's. Hell, didn't Clowney run 4.4 a few years back.Name me just one DE or "Buck" that runs a 4.4. Just one.
