He wants:

Big recruiting budget
Big budget for assistants
Big budget for analysists
For recruiting to be easier (location location location)

He gets none of that at UCLA (aside from fertile recruiting grounds but UCLA is second, third in line for Cali talent). They might promise but they’d be going broke doing so.

I will admit I'm allowing my emotions to spill out. I'm frustrated like the rest of you. He was in play, then he wasn't, then he was, now he may not. A freaking roller-coaster ride. After awhile, you wanna just take control of the situation, which you do through emotions.

We may still get Kelly -- it played out this way in 2004 when Meyer met with Notre Dame after Foley made his best and final -- but if this was truly the job his heart wanted, there wouldn't be a need to hear out UCLA.

Which means if we do get Kelly, we may only be renting him.

Well, we "rented" Urban Meyer for 6 seasons and that worked out pretty well.

I have been saying this all along. Every December, we are going to have to listen to the reports of CK leaving. Let's get a coach who wants to be here and will stay until we, the fans, run him out of town.

Bring on Lane Kiffin!!

Come on 78, you're a businessman. It's very possible he's just angling for more money. He's in an amazing position, why not take advantage of it?

Keep in mind Stricklin said the next head coach will be announced when he walks to the podium at a formal press conference, and not any sooner.

Based on how the Mac negotiations and hiring went down, he has intentionally been much more secretive throughout the process than Foley was.

With that in mind, why is it so hard to believe that the deal was officially signed last night, but Chip is utilizing other means to get to Gainesville for a press conference.

If they know they are being tracked to NH, and Chip hops on the plane headed back to Gainesville, there is no longer any doubt whether or not he is the next head coach.

I’ll be tuned in at 11:15AM expecting Stricklin and Kelly to walk out together for an announcement.

I think it's safe to say Kelly is not going to be here a decade.. But if we can get any where near the production that we had with Meyer I would jump at it...

I agree but we might go broke doing that and for me some of the recruiting and working with boosters is mandatory. He can get help with this.

Some issues follow:

Coach has a show each week, can an assistant do this show? If so they get the pay for it.

Coach makes ads for various sponsors, same question as above.

Coach visits boosters, same question.

Coach visits with recruits both in town and on the road, not all of that can be delegated.

I think we need a larger budget for assistants and analyst, but some of them should be incentives for great performance.

Bama isn’t going broke. Not even close. And I bet we still wouldn’t spend what they are

If that rules his thinking, then we should have been aware of it before we hopped on a plane.

What's critical here is the timeline. Was Florida aware of the UCLA meeting when it met with Kelly? If we were, then we should have been prepared with some heavy ammo and with a contingency plan for re-approaching him if UCLA outbids us.

Two high-profile schools bidding for a rockstar coach. Imagine where those numbers could end up.

Is this source based or just your take Ox? If he is angling for more $ for himself this is a dissapointing development if true IMO...

This times 1000%. Even if he has absolutely no plan of going there, he has to at least hear the offer. If it is more than ours he can leverage us to match. Take your football passion out of this and look at it as a business deal. There is zero chance you don't at least hear the offer. Battered and behind the times, we are still Florida. We've got a fan base that tracks planes like the DEA and rewards success with statues and your name on the stadium. We are still Florida, damn it! All the pride and tradition of Notre Dame couldn't best this job. You think he wants to turn us down for the second best job in the city he'll be living in? We are still Florida! That is all...

I'd tend to agree with you except I don't think there is an NFL owner that would want to bring Chip back. So that leaves college and if we get him, there are only maybe 2-3 other jobs out there that would have any chance of him leaving for, everything else is a down grade in program...especially if he comes in and turns this thing around.

Oh and F$&K Kiffin!!!

It's just my take. And why would it be "disappointing" if a head coach in demand angled for more money? No one here would do it?

You guys take things too personal. It's not like Chip Kelly is a Gator and has a statue outside the stadium like Spurrier. He has every right to try and get as much money as possible. I don't view it as a personal shot at the Gator Nation.

No disagreement there, never was. Question is, does allow us to counter? If he allows us to counter, does he allow UCLA to counter?
