That was my answer. He chose UCLA because they showed they wanted him, not the attitude that he should be so grateful we are even considering you.

This is total crap. We flew the UF president to meet with him. That's it, just trash the Gators! Kelly had no hand in this decision.

Kelly is an arrogant azz that deserves to be in LA. he would have been a disaster for us.

It does bother me that we are making demands on who remains on staff. That's just dumb

You know the answer is somewhere in the middle when you get these two takes on the exact same situation:

a) We flew this VIP posse to New Hampshire that included the president of the university just to get the whack job to say yes? We must be out of our mind.

b) We flew this VIP posse to New Hampshire that included the president of the university just to tell the guy he was a worthless POS? We must be out of our mind.

I think you just nailed it. There is absolutely no shame in our coming up emptyhanded. He simply wasn't the right fit. My Bellotti post just before this attempted to underscore that.
Fair enough but my original post, and your original quote to that post, was about my disagreement with the notion that he chose UCLA because it's easier to win he wouldn't have to work hard.

Winning is always what we want but it is never a given. UCLA hired him to win and win a lot but they might be just as disappointed after 3 years as they were with Mora. Like I said before, they want Oregon success but there are zero guarantees from a guy that only won consistently in one situation.

You inferred it was sour grapes. If he chose the lesser program with lower expectations at an unbelievably lower price than anticipated, then you have to believe there is some merit to that.

For the folks that wanted Shannon are you watching the game. Please watch a little closer. Good grief I hope not.

It's completely sour grapes. It's loser speak to justify someone not choosing our school. "If they didn't pick Florida over "X" it's because they want to go the easy route." Ok. If you say so.

WTF are you talking about?

I'm talking about your blaming this on UF. We have a lazy recruiter that chose a $4m/year deal at a basketball school. And it was even between UF and UCLA only; there are other good coaching spots available. This is on Kelly not UF.

To some extent, yes. He didn't choose UCLA just because it was easier, but I now think it factored in. Another example of the truth lying somewhere in the middle.

I’d be willing to bet we offered more money. Everyone also knows UF is a much more prestigious gig. He picked what he thought was the best fit for him, whatever that is.
