Mike Farrell from Rivals says NPF, the 5 star OL will pick Florida in the end. Just his opinion but thinks UF will win out. Just a reminder, hes rivals top national recruiting guy.

Thanks Marianna.

This new signing period saw around 70% of the usual haul from past Feb signing days (per a Luginbill article). That means there are only around 30% of the remaining D1 level players still available. That's going to create some stiff competition for the remaining players (and we only signed 13, not counting the two transfers....and we need another 10-13). Schools that had bad/low number early signing days (FSU, A&M, UCLA, Nebraska, etc) are going to be pushing these kids hard.

At this point I'd rather have us fall a little short of 13 and keep bringing quality. Yeah, we need practice bodies, but floating some EE offers over to the '19 class (which is likely to be a pretty awesome one) probably isn't a bad idea. That is, unless we can get 10-13 4-5* kids who will fit our system.

I don't see where it says "Bulldog for life" in his bio. However, I do see where he was on the Gator football team for four years, and earned his bachelor's degree from Florida. I'm happy to have to break it to you, Law - he's a Gator.[/QUOTe

He ain't worth the pissin' contest...

I agree w/ the sentiment. However, if we can't land a primary target along the DL I'd be okay w/ signing a Plan B DL. Butters whiffed at DT a couple of years ago and we saw the desperation last year w/ going after DT's late. We got 3 good one's so it worked out, but we're still short bodies there (if it wasn't for the transfer from UNC we'd have been on shaky ground at DT). So, I'd like to see a Plan B DT that can redshirt and develop vs. not signing anyone. Even Saban and Meyer take Plan B's (Saban went after Vosean Joseph hard a couple of years ago).

With the upgrade at WRs and QB this early signing period, other than OL what are our biggest must have positions? Also of those biggest must haves are their any “uncommitted” players that we have a huge chance for.

In order (IMO): LB, DL, WR, CB

Who gives a sh*t either way at this point. He’s been gone from Gainesville for 3 years now. I don’t care what he or anybody else considers him to be, the fact remains that he was terrible when he was here whether it was due to bad coaching or something else, and don’t feed me any crap about how well he played at Louisiana Tech, that’s glorified high school football.

I was perusing Miss State's roster to see how we compare sizes and numbers. Mullen has a lot of recruiting to do to get our roster in a similar position:

http://www.hailstate.com/roster.aspx?path=football

A few observations:

They have a lot of DL's and LB's....and they have a significant size advantage.

Now I'm not sure how highly touted these guys are (I'm sure most are 3-star's w/ a scattering of 4-star players....but overall their roster is filled w/ mostly 2 and 3 star players).

Lots of JUCO's.

BIG, BIG, BIG players at WR and TE. This is something we don't have. They also have some BIG-ass LB's (over 240, 250lbs).

They have 7 kids from the state of Florida as well, so they have experience recruiting the state. One OL from Fletcher HS, where we are recruiting a top 2019 kid.

Take a look at this snip of just a portion of their WR's and TE's:

Dooley wrote something the other day that it will take Mullen a couple of years to be able to reach the 85 scholarship limit. Why is it that? Can't you count some kids against your previous class and sign the max for this class so you could end up signing like 30 or so. Add in some transfers and wouldn't that get you pretty close? Just seems like we're always going into the year 5-7 scholarships short of the max, I understand you'd like to have 85 quality guys, but wouldn't just having something in those remaining scholarships spots better than nothing? By the time we come to the end of the season annually we always seem to be having a skeleton crew for a roster. So can Mullen not get us to the max this year?

Here's a lawyerly case for you. Driskel doesn't claim UF. How can you call him a Gator when he won't call himself one. You're failing on this. The only thing you're doing is proving you're a Driskel nuthugger. Congrats

Yes, he does claim UF:

And he’s not wallowing in bitterness:

No reason to be bitter towards a kid who worked hard, did all the right things, never embarrassed the university or himself, got his degree but didn’t live up to expectations and transferred.

And he’s on an NFL roster. Apparently people who know a lot more about football than anyone on this board see his ability and potential.

Is it a transfer if a player gets his undergraduate degree at one college, then a postgraduate degree at another, and plays out his eligibility at the 2nd school?

That would be a "grad transfer". The difference is they are eligible immediately vs. having to sit out a year.

There are cases where a grad transfer has 2 years of eligibility.

He was a constant embarrassment. If there is one thing I will always remember Driskel for, it will be for the GaSouthern game. While Morningwood was struggling, Driskel was far from the sideline shooting the shyt with the walk-ons. Meanwhile, Murphy was trying to coach up our 3rd stringer. All your little twittering has done is show that he holds LaTech in higher regard. As Law said, he's listed as LaTech for NFL purposes, that's his choice, not the NFL's.

Just like the last 5+ years, in the end there will be attrition and we'll start the year at 80 or less. If you look around the country, there's an average number of players that leave/quit/transfer/medical hardship, etc. Then when you tack on a coaching change the numbers are ALWAYS higher.

Remember, Mullen said that the jig is up w/ the S&C program. Some of these players may have gotten used to the soft program the previous staff ran (or whatever the issue was) and may not like how they get treated (or may not like what is expected of them). There will be some washout from the current roster.

In addition, there are several of these kids who should have never been signed by an SEC school....much less a UF type school. These kids could be "advised" to seek a transfer (i.e. they'll be told they can stay, but they very likely won't see the field). Basically, they'll get Saban'd out of the program.

Bottom line, expect several more departures. I expect to open the year w/ no more than 80 true scholarship players (not counting the 4-6 or so walk-ons that get the leftover scholarships).

He’s also the last Gator QB to beat F$U.

LA Tech is where he had an opportunity to rack up 4,000 passing yards and attract NFL interest.

And no matter what you say, he’s a varsity Gator letterman and an alumnus.
