Several recruits in the state of Georgia received visits Tuesday from the Florida coaching staff.
Gators defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and defensive line coach Sal Sunseri went to see
Caleb Johnson, a 3-star defensive end from Northside High School in Columbus, Ga. The Gators are in need of defensive linemen and Johnson is one of their top remaining targets for the Class of 2018.
The 6-foot-3, 250-pound pass rusher has been communicating with the new coaches and will officially visit Florida this weekend. Johnson took a trip to Georgia last weekend and will check out Auburn on Jan. 26. He also officially visited Tennessee on Sept. 30.
Grantham also made his way to Cordele, Ga., to meet with Alabama commit
Quay Walker. The 4-star linebacker from Crisp County High School told SEC Country on Sunday that he was no longer planning to officially visit Florida, but Grantham is still trying to get him on campus.
Walker has already rearranged his visit schedule a couple times, so it’s possible for him to change his mind again. The top-100 overall recruit has called UF his dream school and likes Grantham’s 3-4 defense. Nonetheless, the Gators have ground to make up on Alabama and others.
Florida extended a scholarship offer to
Taiyon Palmer, a 4-star cornerback from Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Ga. The former Duke commit re-opened his recruitment in late November and has since received offers from Arkansas, Clemson, Louisville, Nebraska, Notre Dame and others.
Palmer officially visits N.C. State this weekend and has already taken trips to Nebraska and Vanderbilt. Florida will try to get him on campus on Jan. 26 or Feb. 2. The 6-foot, 178-pound prospect is the nation’s No. 28 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Gators
also offered Palmer’s teammate, Andrew Booth. The top-100 overall recruit is the No. 5-ranked cornerback in the Class of 2019 and holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and other Power 5 programs.
Trente Jones, a 2019 lineman from Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., was
re-offered by the new Florida staff on Tuesday and picked up an offer from Michigan as well. He is ranked the nation’s No. 23 offensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite.
UF also stopped by Marietta High School, which is home to some elite 2020 recruits in quarterback
Harrison Bailey, athlete
Arik Gilbert and defensive end
B.J. Ojulari.
- The Gators were also in California on Tuesday, offering 2019 quarterback Jayden Daniels (Cajon High School), 2019 tight end Jude Wolfe (St. John Bosco High School) and five underclassmen from Mater Dei High School.
