Boosters let the pres know that they will back the decision to let Taggart go.
The hat has already been passed and the check is ready to be signed.
No way this move would have been made without this type of backing.
Should have known better than to listen to all the so-called experts who proclaimed
that FSU would never fire Taggart because of that buyout.
They still can't afford a true top tier coach. Their best shot is to get a potential up and comer.

I'd like to follow the paper trail of the boosters who came up with the $18 million AND what they have to pay their staff. Hard to believe it's above the table

IF they really have all that backing, Stoops would be a no-brainer.

Why would Franklin leave Penn State for FSU or USC? He's got a premier job, makes about $6 mil and is signed thru 2022.

As for the others, the only two names that would concern me-and both are risks-are P.J. Fleck and Mike Norvell.

Compared to Willie, all of them make me nervous...except Mac.

Seems like after some of the comments from politicos the "boosters" are the taxpayers of the State of Florida.

Here's the candidates:

Here's the bad news for Florida State after firing WiLLLLLLLie Taggart

1. James Franklin, Penn State – We wrote this morning on Yahoo Sports that Franklin is USC’s likely top target. It’s reasonable to think FSU fired Taggart so soon because they wanted a jump on top candidates. Franklin has the experience, skill and recruiting cachet to revive the Seminoles. Does he risk the administrative migraines? His buyout is only $1 million, but his salary is $5 million and FSU would have to overpay.

2. Mario Cristobal, Oregon – Andy Miller and the Seminole Boosters could get invited to the Eugene Chamber of Commerce for an Economic Stimulus Award if Cristobal goes there. They’d have to pay $9 million up until Jan. 14, in addition to the $3 million they paid for Taggart. Cristobal is a Florida native and has long coveted this job. Does he leave stable AD Rob Mullens and the burgeoning program for the unknown in Tallahassee?

3. Matt Rhule, Baylor – He’s certainly navigated some messes before in his career, as he revived Baylor in the wake of sanctions. Rhule has learned with Pat Kraft at Temple and Mack Rhoades at Baylor how important alignment is in a coaching job. The alignment at FSU is not immediately visible.

4. P.J. Fleck, Minnesota – His buyout is $4 million, which isn’t insurmountable. Fleck has made both Western Michigan (13-1 in 2016) and Minnesota (8-0) relevant in a four-year span by going undefeated deep into the season, which shows he can do more with less. It’s the first time either has been on the national stage in generations. What could he do with the talent and brand of FSU?

5. Matt Campbell, Iowa State – The $6 million buyout would be a factor. The question lingers as to whether Campbell would leave his Midwestern roots when a Big Ten or NFL job could come calling.

6. Mike Norvell, Memphis – Because all of the above coaches have stable situations, none would sprint to Tallahassee. Norvell loves Memphis and has been paid well above Group of Five market at $2.6 million, but this is the caliber of opportunity he’s been waiting for. The timing here is good for Norvell, as he just had the eyes of the college football world on the job he’s done at Memphis this weekend. Bonus for cash-strapped FSU: Norvell’s buyout is only $500,000.

7. Mark Stoops, Kentucky – Don’t be surprised if this name garners serious interest. Stoops spent three years at FSU earlier this decade and has shown he can run a capable and professional program. There’s not much sizzle to Stoops, but FSU needs to find stability more than sizzle.

8. Scott Satterfield, Louisville – Want a coach to come in and fix a chronically underachieving and undisciplined program? Well, Satterfield just did that at Louisville, taking over a 2-10 program and having them 5-3 this season. Does he aim higher? The buyout is $5 million, which isn’t untenable.

9. Bryan Harsin, Boise State – Seminoles officials saw up close what a Harsin team looks like, as the Broncos upset FSU in the opener this season. Harsin’s 78 percent winning percentage is among the elite in college football, and he clearly could instill the needed discipline and offensive polish. The biggest question: Could he jump from Boise to the deep South?

10. Luke Fickell, Cincinnati – He’s headed toward back-to-back 10-win season and brings football sensibilities that would resonate at FSU. This would be another culture leap, as Fickell has essentially never lived outside the state of Ohio. It’s hard to argue with a coach who has gone 18-3 the past two years.

11. Tony Elliott or Brent Venables, Clemson – If FSU were to go the assistant coach route, the first glance would be at Clemson. If they wanted an accomplished offensive mind, they’d look at Elliott, who has been the most coveted offensive coach the past few years in the sport. Venables has been notoriously picky, but a job the caliber of FSU could move him to change his mind.

12. Jim McElwain, Central Michigan -- While this name might be surprising, there were a number of Seminole brass who felt McElwain got a raw deal at Florida. He knows the state, and his recruiting was solid as head of the Gators. Also, who better to want to extract revenge on their biggest rival?

Clearly #12 is their best option and they should move on him pronto. And if those :nole::nole: think he got a raw deal then by all means they can make it right. Can those :nole::nole::nole::nole::nole: really be that stupid? Butters did us the biggest favor in the world when he stuck his foot in his mouth, otherwise he would still be the coach most likely and we would be a 3 win team. The :nole::nole::nole::nole: just fired a guy today for the exact same product that Butters was putting on the field. The ony difference was that the SEC LEast was so horrendous it really overshadowed what type of team we really had. When Grier left, Butters was so stupid and stubborn to play Harris like a dropback QB. 4 or so games into that experiment was all I needed to see and solidified when the :nole::nole::nole::nole: beat us at home with some of the worst game managment I had ever seen. So my point is that the :nole::nole::nole: fire a guy whose teams have a quality of play that is laughable, but think that Butters was a winner just b/c of the record? Just as I said if the :nole::nole::nole::nole: had actually beaten scrotUM and played like they did and have been would been akin to how we be KY in a game where KY failed not once but twice to cover a WR. The result is a W and you are misguided that all is well b/c you won. Have at it you A$$:nole::nole::nole::nole:. Butters would be a home run hire.

With FSU in a cauldron of confusion and doldrums of doubt, surely some of their commits will drift our way. How about proven transfers?
Chance to get some beefier LBs, a DT? That is the exciting news = any transfers reveal themselves? Plus any commits decommit?
Mullen's crew needs to be on the lookout for recruiting opportunities with such little time left.

It has to be Urban, you don't raise 20 million to buy the staff out unless you tell them you have the top guy lined up to take over.
Well there is some reasonable thought to this. They must want to be the first to the party.

Thats good. What would you think of him if he DID end up there?
I wouldn't like him anymore. Fortunately, there's a better chance of him becoming head coach here again than head coach there. Meyer hates FSU as much as we do, of that I'm certain.

Yet another source told me they are robbing their football only facility fund to make the buyout. So their facilities will be non existent for a while.

Some plugged in guys, but not boosters, think that Stoops may be their best shot at an experienced P5 HC. I hope to hear some big time booster trickle down tomorrow

I talk to the facility department there and the people heading up that project don’t ever expect it to happen. As of right now all athletic projects are on hold and have been that way for a while.
