Just finished reading the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel account. Even sadder than I expected.
His family was homeless.
This was an ambitious kid, and apparently afflicted with some sort of psychosis, possibly even schizophrenia based on descriptions of people around him toward the end when he began describing being “trapped by doors and mirrors.”
He wanted to pursue a degree in finance or engineering. “But he was miserable over leaving his family in an unstable situation, relatives said.”
His mother suffers from mental health issues as well.

17 years old and parentalized out of necessity by a family situation where there was no father in sight and the mother obviously not doing well, and homeless.
This was a good kid. He did everything he could to “support” his own family at his own expense, and yet 17-year-olds are not ready for that kind of responsibility. Their brains aren’t fully developed.
So typical of the struggle so many black families face. Dude knocks up his girlfriend and runs, leaving the mother to scramble for herself. An innocent child loses his life as a result. Sorry if that sounds racist, but it’s the GD truth.

We have evolved the system that encourages & finances the creation and maintenance of "non-nuclear" families.
Dumb officials have us buying failure, financing those people's ruin.

My best friend's 45 year-old daughter is bi-polar & has spiraled down on 2 occasions in 2019 ending up being Baker acted into the mental ward of the hospital. She would not take the meds as they made her gain weight. Fortunately, the doctor changed meds & she is doing well, however, we continue to watch her closely as this is a lifetime problem.
Such an insidious disease. Mental illness affects not only the individual but the entire family unit. There is obviously a genetic component to mental illness just as it is to diabetes, etc. My heart & prayers go out to this family & I am so very thankful that I only face physical problems.

Really sad and tragic. Some people probably wonder how and why a person can choose that outcome, but the feelings this young man grappled with I probably know myself all too well. Heads up: When someone screams I need help, help them. Don't say you are listening and do nothing. Otherwise, things like this happen.

Let’s not forget the real culprit responsible for this national problem which is the welfare system established by LBJ in the sixties that incentivized women to have children out of wedlock. Since this lucrative program was established single mother birth rates in the black community went from 12% to 75%.
Call it what you want but you must also admit that it is a fact.

My next door neighbor here in the DC area drives a MARC train. He has 5 kills in his career, all intentional suicides. That's just here in the DC area (over a 20+ year career).
Sad story. I actually liked this kid as a recruit, 6'3 210lbs. He was a good fit in our O, being a big WR. It was a great pick up for Collins/GT.
