I'm not sharing my DNA with anyone who has no business having it. I'll take my chances with the unknown.

this^^

Seems so innocent and fun right now to find out your family genealogy but the day is coming that it will be used to eliminate people from potential jobs or other things. (Too bad you might have Alzheimer’s or cancer one day but we can’t let your run for office or hire you for this job)

On a positive note, my adopted brother was able to make contact with birth relatives last month. Both birth parents have passed but the possible siblings are willing to do dna testing for a match. Happy for him.

Are you responding to my comment? Because in today's world of big data and identity security issues, that would be a misplaced trust IMHO.
You don't have to do the genetics part. The calculator doesn't even ask for an email address or name.

All they could 'data collect' on my was age, I'm a fat med-ht European descent with Diabetes Type 2. 15-16% chance (according to them) based on my exercise level.

Wife is 6%.

Really, beyond generic info like that, the best they could do is an IP trace to your general location which does them no good. It's not invasive of your privacy, it's just allowing you to see where you fall against national statistics.

'You can take someone's DNA and design a weapon that can kill them': House intelligence committee member warns people not to share health data with sites like 23andMe because it can be used to program new bio-weapons to target them

  • US Rep Jason Crow warned that bio-weapons are being made that use a target's DNA to only kill that person during the Aspen Security Forum on Friday
  • The congressman said the development of the weapons is worrisome given the popularity of DNA testing services like 23andMe
  • 23andMe has stated that it does not sell off customer's private information, but the company is one of many that has provided information to police
  • In 2019, it was found that several Russian and Chinese labs were processing DNA tests for Americans through Medicare and Medicaid
  • Officials warned the bio-weapons could also target animals and disrupt food supplies around the globe

The attraction of giving any personal info to any public or private entity just because they say it can tell something about your ancestry or anything else is misplaced. Why would a serious person let anyone know how their DNA is made up? Things as simple as the GPS in your phone or vehicle can also collect personal data. We all know the personal data gatherers are out there, but don't think that their intentions are honorable. I choose to make them work for my data.
