So now that the season is over, except for the bowl, and we are collectively calming down a bit from the excitement from that very satisfying win over FSU. Recruiting is about to hit the early signing period stretch, but we have a bit of time to think back over the season.

1. I said in the off season, if UF did not win 10 games with its roster against this schedule, UF had not hired the right guy for the job again. UF sits at 9-3 today and maybe UF will pick up that 10th win in a bowl. So to that extent the season did not reveal a bad hire.

2. UF got a much needed win against FSU and I am sure everyone is at least as satisfied with that win as I am. Of course as time goes on it will be tempered over time by the fact that this is an historically bad FSU team. Of course losing to an historically bad FSU team would have been a disaster, making this an important satisfying win.

3. A big part of the reason for my 10 win analysis was that I saw UF's schedule this year as pretty weak. In reality it turned out to be historically weak. FSU and UTn were awful. UK was a bit better than usual, but other than that every other team was about what they were expected to be. Really given this schedule, UF probably should have won 11 games.

4. After a slow start the offense made progress to respectability getting over the 4800 yards in 12 games that I set as standard to measure against. I guess I should temper my long run expectations of the offense yardage output with the understanding is more run based and thus will not get as many yards as a similarly efficient passing offense. Still I think the offense made good progress this season, but still there is the lingering issue of finding a QB. Otherwise, RB, WR, TE and OL all seemed to progress if unevenly during the season and looked competent.

5. As far as the QB issue, against FSU Franks has a play some times two plays in a row where the light seemingly had come on finally. Then he would revert and have another awful play or two. As I said in point 3 it appears the offensive just needs a competent QB to be a very good offense.

6. Defensively, I am not sure this style is the best for a place where you can get top shelf talent. I think UF could play what I think might be a bit sounder style of defense. The defense regressed a bit as predicted, but was not terrible.

7. Finally it was nice that UF was able to replace both kickers so well. Special teams stepped forward a bit in general as UF returned a punt for a TD and the new kickoff return fair catch rule helped UF not look as embarrassingly bad as in the past couple of years.

8. There were no major in game coaching meltdowns, so the in game coaching was decent.

So overall UF made some progress this year compared to the last 3. UF still lost AT HOME to UK and UMo. That is unacceptable. The only real solid win was LSU at home, maybe Miss State on the road. It was not a disasterous first year for a coach, but it was not a stellar first year either.

You lost me at 11 games being reasonable. We had the 14th SOS. Staff did extremely well. I hope we win 9 or 10 next year. More is better but ok. You sound full of yourself or spoiled. Maybe you fear being too generous to the staff would draw negative posts?

Self-mutilation involves the direct and deliberate destruction or alteration of the body. Examples of these behaviors include cutting, burning, sticking oneself with needles and severe scratching. If any of this interests you, I invite you to reread post number 1 in its entirety.

I thought we’d only win 7 games this year if Franks was the starter. So I’m ok with how it turned out. Beating the Noles was the most important win of the year. We had to have that one. We were going to lose to Kentucky at some point, why not be during a rebuilding year? The Missouri game was the most disappointing, cause the team didn’t even look motivated in the least, but we seem to play like crap against Missouri often for some reason. Hopefully this staff can use this momentum on the recruiting trail and land some studs. Mullen surprised me this year, hopefully he continues to do that.

11 wins?? Really in the SEC who knows what the schedules will be like weak or strong. The grind and the load are tougher than most in the country. This season was about improvement and investing in the long term. We won some games we could've lost and lost some we could've won. I thought realistically 8 wins, we got 9. Mizzou seems to have our number and Mullen will have to break that. This team exceeded expectations that I had coming into it no doubt. Now it is on to recruiting and winning the offseason. Beat FSU and Miami there too and regain the state. Regain that and things get immensely improved from what they are. Mullen to have won with this team that MacNussy left is to be appaluded.

You are what your record says you are. After a full season, this team is 9-3 against the 11th toughest schedule in the country.

Whatever one may say about the roster, “this roster” includes the QBs, and who would predict 11 wins with Franks coming off last year and the spring? That’s saying we’re a playoff team.

And one must take into account that it is a transition year. Look around. Transition years are tough. Ours is exceptional.

And best of all, everything seems to be moving in the right direction. If we can somehow manage to get our recruiting class into the top ten or better, we’ll be in great shape.

SOS is in the 40s with the one they give the committee ranking the teams. Certainly nothing like some past schedules but we played 2 high quality teams and a decent KY and Miss State.

We did have a good transition year but those SOS rankings are a joke. They had us and other SEC teams high early in the season in SOS when we had played CSU and Charleston Southern.

The one that takes into account the opponents strength/schedule etc. has us in the 40s.

Let's at least get one thing right: the 2018 season finished far beyond any reasonable preseason expectations.

The Meyer tree outcoached the Saban tree yet again.

So, with MSU, UGA, LSU and FSU on the schedule, you thought we'd win 10 or 11 games? All coming after a 4-7 season?

So, this 9-3 season must really be a disappointment to you. Talk about high expectations. Wow!

Nos. 4-8, I'm with you on those.

I was originally very disappointed with the Mullen hire. And long term success and recruiting remain to be seen. But, if you can't recognize the remarkable job that Coach Mullen did this year and the tremendous improvement that this team made in just about every aspect of the program, then you're blind or in serious refusal to admit it. I'm excited about the future of Gator football.

Go Gators!

Gracious, how did this make it up to the caliber of a rebuilding year ? These athletes were darn near ruined over a two year period. Older players that could set standards that resemble structured football were gone and these kids got abandonment-coaching ftom McElcrew. Mullen inherited atrophied FB muscles and atrophied FB brains. Operating under McElwain's dastardly tutelage would be living the lie in CFB. The residue of that crap should have tripped us up more than UK & Mizzou ... say also losses to LSU & MSU, making possibly a turnaround from 4-7 to 7-5. Mullen & crew gave our guys a total remake. Of course, much more to do or should we say undo.

Saw yesterday that we had the 18th toughest schedule in Div 1. Can't remember the source.
