What happened to the Elite 8 team from 2 years ago? Has the talent level changed that much? Did opponents figure out what White is doing (not that it’s a difficult scheme)? It was working better... what happened?
Chris Chiozza was better than we realized. He was always a threat to blow by everyone straight down the lane if they didn't have it defended (and he usually hit his layups). That kept the defense cheating away from the perimeter enough that he could often dish to an open 3-point shooter. Whether it is ability or part of the game plan, Nembhard almost never drives down the lane, and when he does, usually misses his layup. I've been impressed with Nembhard's ball handling and defense, but he doesn't seem to help his shooters get open (and they don't help themselves, either), and he's been an average to below-average shooter himself.
I think we could go position-by-position and point out numerous weaknesses vs Gator teams of the past two years.
With that said, I believe that a future with Nembhard, Locke, and Johnson looks bright. Need a couple of bigs to make it all work. If not a true center, a power forward and a stretch forward would be nice additions.
