We know Trask will be the starter for the near future. Helluva job in the comeback victory. !!

Was Mullen like Chump? Sticking to his starting QB even when he seemed to have hit his plateau and was a mild head case (a la Driskel) granted Trask was always getting hurt so maybe that forced Mullen to keep with Franks, anyway, he's out, Trask is in, these are some of the things I see.

Trask in his limited playing time is obviously able to go through his progressions much faster. The big question will be how he holds up under pressure. If we can survive the next couple of games getting him acclimated to pressure, I think we'll see the offense start to be more productive. He has the quick release, our strength as a team (maybe our only one) is the WR, Mullen will have to use them. As we saw when Trask came in and fired off 5 quick passes, this will help the running game, (if the Oline can ever get some push).

One of the things that I liked last year about Mullen, was he game planned around the strengths of the players, vs the opponent, which helped us have a great year, this year he seems to pushing his typical offensive scheme and we are struggling. He needs to turn to page 3 & 4 of the playbook. It is possible that he knew Franks limits and tried to keep him from doing too much.

We all have been wondering why EJ hasn't taken more snaps... we saw the other game that he needs more game experience, he was pretty raw. I think Mullen will put together a couple of packages every game going forward and EJ will see the field. Knowing Trask's knack of getting hurt, he has to prepare EJ starting now to take over at any moment.

Not happy Franks got hurt, wish him a full recovery and good luck in the draft (please don't take the medical RS and come back next year) but I am excited for the change at QB as I felt that we had seen Franks hit the wall in his progress and we knew there would be those bonehead plays each game. Maybe now that Mullen is forced to use Trask, he will open up the passing game. Yes we will see an INT every now and then as Trask doesn't have the experience at reading the defense, but we already had that with Franks, let's start taking more shots down the field, crossing routes, using the TE's, passing the ball beyond the LOS, throwing past the 1st down marker on 3rd, using the middle of the field, etc. score some points!!

My final observation, Trask is the kind of guy that SOS would throw in the game and lead us to an SEC title. Time for Mullen to start earning that 6M a year.

I have no doubt that a QB who was a backup in HS and has never started in the SEC is gonna struggle at some point and will likely make several mistakes along the way. Hopefully EJ can help bridge the gap.

He definitely needs to earn his money. He actually needs to "mean" what he says with having 3 starter QBs, and going forward start both depending on what works best for the situation, and continue to rotate Trask an EJ. Trask is injury prone and is not a runner unless he is completely uncovered. We will see.

Great points. I am interested to see how far Trask can take us. I am convinced he sees the field better and has a higher IQ. Hopefully we can start putting a lot more points on the board to protect our weak defense.

I am a negative Nancy I guess but I fully expect a lot of pain for this offense come the Auburn and LSU games. I doubt we can have an effective passing attack against those teams with the rushing attack being so poor. The KY game was a mirage in the 2nd half due to them having almost an FCS level secondary by that point in the game. Trask wont be able to buy the extra time that Franks did when under pressure.

He’s obviously not a battering ram like Tebow and even FF at times, but I think the running part is sometimes overstated. He doesn’t have to be that if he a) keeps defenses on their heels with accuracy in the passing game, b) uses proper vision to know when he can and should keep, and c) is simply willing to take it at times to keep defenders honest.

Naturally our first instinct is to think back to 2010 with Brantley trying to run something similar. But the signature difference is that he was none of those three things and it killed us. I have no doubt that he wouldn’t have scored the TD that KT did and would’ve handed it off for no gain despite the gaping hole he had. He just wasn’t willing to do it.

I think Trask will be different, even if there are lumps along the way. If he can keep it together mentally, which had been his greatest issue per DM, he should be fine.

I think that is sometimes a bit understated too. We put a backup RS Junior QB who never started in his entire career since middle school in the middle of an SEC road game when we were down 11 points. Looked like he "do this" all the time. Hope he can stay mentally focused.

I feel this situation, although bad for FF, is ideal for the program. It forces other teams to adjust to a possible two QB game plan. Forces EJ to mature while getting PT, as he is our future. Makes Trask the #1 which seems a better and quicker fit for this offense. Gives the whole team a bigger PURPOSE to pull together and step it up. Finally it removes the “haze” of FF inconsistencies.

I hate FF but didn’t want him out this way. I definitely think Trask goes through his progressions faster and makes pretty good decision, most of the time.

We got lucky on a couple of his plays. One was the pitch back when he was being tackled. That could have been a disaster. Also, the kitty kats were not prepared for his style and got confused. That with the decimated secondary. I will say this; KY did not give up on pressure and I thought handled the pressure pretty well.

I expect to see some chinks in the armor once he plays teams that have studied his style. There is no coach that is going to hold a superstar in a backup role if he is better than the starter. There is something there. I hope it is that he practices poorly but plays like this in the game.

I was wondering how long it was going to take for someone to finally start a thread about Trask.

It was like watching an entirely new offense when Trask entered the game. He's much quicker physically and mentally than Franks. That brought desperately needed tempo. The playmaking lateral to the running back for the TD with a tackler draped over him left me with my mouth agape.

He's got quick feet, a quick release and there's no hesitancy. Arm strength is plenty enough. Threw a few ill-advised passes into traffic, but that's okay. Suddenly, receivers that weren't open were wide open because the timing was there. I have no doubt he can run the ball, and I have no doubt Mullen will be bullheaded about that being a requisite.

Will defenses watch tape and adapt? Of course they will. Football is a chess match. But I'd much rather play the game at Trask speed than the plodding nature of the one Franks ran.

Trask is 6-5, 240lbs. He can pick up a tough yard or two.

Trask runs better than Leak.

Passes remains to be seen, but I has said on the other board last year after Mizz that Trask looks a lot better than FF to me in the limited amount of game time I have seen Trask. Dude is 6'5 230+ and looks fairly quick. His arm has been super impressive.

A lot has been made of lack of playing time in HS and college. He played behind the starter at Houston who may be as fast running the ball as Kyler Murray. He has a gun too.

FF looked good throwing the ball sans the hail mary that was picked. Trying to make something happen that wasn't there, but he had some really nice passes.

Trask needs to get his feet wet. I am excited to see him play.

Sparingly. The guy got injured twice in practice, and I think last season his injury was with no contact. So...
So he got injured at some other time. Who hasn't been injured at some point? He's not a china doll.

That being said, getting hit seems like something that only happens to QBs in actual games these days. He probably hasn't been hit very much and then had to get up and effectively take the next snap. The first time he gets crushed by a blindside sack it'll be interesting to see how well he does on the next play.

It really is anybody's guess. I hope he lights it up and doesn't get killed in the process.

Injuries are not just random luck too. An athlete who was injured once in the past is more likely to get injured in the future. Trask had not one, but two season ending injuries in the past. Basically injury watch.
