No one is arguing hundred dollar handshakes. That’s happens at every power 5 school in America, I would presume.... No way to control some fan off the street or fat-cat alumni handing a kid some cash in a handshake. As for joker “cheating” (having dinner with a kid during the no contact period). He was immediately suspended, UF stopped recruiting that particular athlete, and he was subsequently fired/allowed to resign.
I can’t believe this is even an argument. Joker having dinner with a prospect, WHICH HE GOT FIRED OVER, when HOW MANY bama recruits are suddenly driving brand new cars? Or their high school dropout, single mother suddenly finds a high paying job in Tuscalusa, equipped with a fancy house... when she’s been living in a two bedroom apartment all her life and living on minimum wage and government subsidy “prior” to her son committing to bama.?.?. Come on, bro.
Thing is, I don’t even disagree with your premise. That UF is not squeaky clean. But the egregious, in your face, and the SEC and NCAA ain’t gonna do sh!t about it, breaking of the rules is not even in the same ball park! My origins premise was other teams have an advantage in facilities. No excuse for that. And as long as many of those same schools are also egregiously breaking the rules in recruiting, while we are seemingly “trying” to play within the rules.... well that puts us behind on two fronts.
I miss the SOS days when we could say, let’em cheat. We’ll kick their ass anyway! But the UF brand is not what it once was and we are now way behind on many fronts. First step, I think, is breaking ground on new facilities immediately. Which ain’t happening. And don’t half-ass it. Go ALL out and spare no cost. Which we also know ain’t gonna happen... until something major changes, we’re gonna be hard pressed to bring in Top 3-5 classes every year, which is what we all want to see.
You're right. We don't cheat. We're the cleanest program in the country....
