It is funny to me that we run around scared of the NCAA, fearing if we even stray the slightest tittle, while everyone else has figured out that he NCAA is a toothless tiger. If the NCAA comes around wondering why a kid has $100k in his pocket, you just send out attorneys calling them racists for insinuating that Uncle Ja'quan doesn't have the right to dolt on his nephew.

No sh it.
For what it’s worth I haven’t heard of any of our kids getting sweet deals from the local car dealership. Or apparently free room & board on unofficial visits.
That crap is easy to do and not run afoul of the impotent NCAA.
No UF kids drive around in scooters while the players at bama and uga get Dodge chargers and $70k trucks. I remember SOS commenting back in the day about all the nice cars in the UF players parking lot during the Tank Black affair. Now it's only scooters and a poor record

The NCAA doesn't have the teeth it had in the Pell years. The state changed laws such that the NCAA can't waltz in with whatever bs they want (which greatly helped F$U in subsequent years). And they backdown these days if you lawyer up and the transgressions aren't that egregious. We do have a tendency to roll over and play dead though. If we manned up we could be competing on level playing field. Unfortunately it seems that our administration has issued strict rules vis-à-vis creative recruiting. We're handcuffed by the administration, have section 8 accommodations, and a feckless recruiting staff.

I’m not so gullible to believe we are squeaky clean and haven’t broken rules. However, I know the mother of a longtime assistant AD under Jeremy Foley. He worked for the athletic department for over 20 years. She told me that her son said that JF would not put up with that crap...Not after the 80’s probation. When he took over he was intent on running a clean program and every coach knew it was their ass if they got caught breaking the rules. With JF still hanging around and many assuming Stricklin still takes marching orders from Foley... I assume but in no way know for sure, the intent is still the same.

I’m not claiming that it doesn’t happen behind administrations back. But I haven’t found one person who doesn’t believe uga and bama are blatantly breaking the rules. Hell, when I talk to bama fans about it they all laugh about it, they’re almost proud of it. They feel invincible.

My original question is still the same: Isn’t it a rule violation to offer lodging to a recruit on an “unofficial” visit ?
Could be. But if the kid happened to find a vacant hotel room with an unlocked door good for him. Guess that kind of thing happens in every college town but Gainesville these days.

Is there really ANY doubt in your mind that Fooley himself was back there in the catering room peeling the labels off that Butterteeth BBQ sauce and insisting they use it since it was free?

I am not joking in the slightest. I guarantee he ordered that they use that stuff up.

Good point! It's obviously the reason the avalanche of commitments didn't materialize in June.

Joker Phillips got caught cheating (had he not gotten caught none of us would have ever known).

Muschamp gave VH3's sister a job in the athletic department the same year we signed him.

Chris Rainey admitted to "hundred dollar handshakes" then said, "It's good to be Chris Rainey"......

No one is arguing hundred dollar handshakes. That’s happens at every power 5 school in America, I would presume.... No way to control some fan off the street or fat-cat alumni handing a kid some cash in a handshake. As for joker “cheating” (having dinner with a kid during the no contact period). He was immediately suspended, UF stopped recruiting that particular athlete, and he was subsequently fired/allowed to resign.

I can’t believe this is even an argument. Joker having dinner with a prospect, WHICH HE GOT FIRED OVER, when HOW MANY bama recruits are suddenly driving brand new cars? Or their high school dropout, single mother suddenly finds a high paying job in Tuscalusa, equipped with a fancy house... when she’s been living in a two bedroom apartment all her life and living on minimum wage and government subsidy “prior” to her son committing to bama.?.?. Come on, bro.

Thing is, I don’t even disagree with your premise. That UF is not squeaky clean. But the egregious, in your face, and the SEC and NCAA ain’t gonna do sh!t about it, breaking of the rules is not even in the same ball park! My origins premise was other teams have an advantage in facilities. No excuse for that. And as long as many of those same schools are also egregiously breaking the rules in recruiting, while we are seemingly “trying” to play within the rules.... well that puts us behind on two fronts.

I miss the SOS days when we could say, let’em cheat. We’ll kick their ass anyway! But the UF brand is not what it once was and we are now way behind on many fronts. First step, I think, is breaking ground on new facilities immediately. Which ain’t happening. And don’t half-ass it. Go ALL out and spare no cost. Which we also know ain’t gonna happen... until something major changes, we’re gonna be hard pressed to bring in Top 3-5 classes every year, which is what we all want to see.

We got Donell Harvey a Lincoln Navigator, and he was required to leave it at his house in Georgia. Per a source that played basketball at UF.
