So am I to understand that Chip was still HC at UCLA which is headed to the Big Ten? So a current HC in the Big Ten is willing to become an assistant at another Big Ten school over being a HC? If you give up HC in college for say OC in NFL, I get it. To me this says I hate what college football is and being a HC is just not worth it, so I will just keep collecting my money from being a huge failure in the NFL and just live the easy life as a college asst. I would say this is so Cousin Eddie and it is, in laziness only. But Cousin Eddie believes he deserves to be HC at a place like OSU, not the OC.

UCLA isn't a premier gig in college football.

Chip wasn't going to parlay success at UCLA to a better college or pro gig. He's been there for years, and he was losing to USC, Oregon, Utah, etc. Now move that school to the B1G where there are more, tougher teams and the travel is a nightmare. UCLA turned into a dead end for him. Zero chance of him winning big there.

Being a coordinator at tOSU (or 'Bama, etc.) is the expressway to a top gig if you win.

If he wins big, his name will be on the short list top openings nationwide.

You really think that's his end game? I mean, who knows? But at age 60, it strikes me as too long-term of a goal and I wonder if people will see right through him. I'm guessing UCLA was his longest stay.

I guess another possibility is a slow retirement. Not ready to call it quits, but ready for a step-down in responsibilities. That would be very mature.

He was 3-3 against USC.

The issue is UCLA doesn’t do NIL or have a Collective. They will never compete in the new landscape.

He also hates recruiting. We all know that.

I hope so but will go on record to say that Kelly to OSU will not work well for them.
Better that Bill Obrien. What a horrid hire he was.

Once we fire Cajun Taggart and hire Day next year, hopefully we get the entire staff.

Do not disagree that UCLA is not premier and like UF is an also ran. But rest assured Chip's name is never going to be mentioned for any premier gig in college. I happen to think that this is his audition to be an OC in the NFL. Granted you can go from HC in college to OC in NFL, but Chip is probably thinking that by showing the NFL that if only responsible for a sliver of a team, he can do wonders. And probably asking himself if the Coen from Kintuck can get an NFL OC job, how in the hell can't I (Chip)? Not like Kintuck rolled up 50+ every week.

I was hopeful about making a run at Day next year but booger eater left Michigan and you know that interim isn’t going to beat OSU his first year so that hope is all but gone.

OSU fans would gladly send a chauffeur to escort him out of Columbus after what happened against Michigan this year.

All will be forgiven when they win the B1G next year. Unless/until, of course, they don’t win the Natty.

Hartline is current OC and was instrumental in recruitment of Jerremiah Smith. Could he transfer out if Hartline's gone?
Ryan Day is telling Hartline that he isn't OC material. This has to kill any chance Hartline has of getting a HC gig.

Is he really that great of a WR coach or do his WRs put up big numbers due to their offense and more importantly, the defenses they face?

The NFL money dried up at this point, but if the money is not that difference less BS. This is what I was thinking, doesn't want to put up with the BS, already made generational wealth between the Eagles and 49ers.
