Imagine Dragons (8/10/18): I went with my wife, wife of the couple we hang out with, and their youngest daughter. We got their about 45 minutes before the opening act and never has parked so far from the Amp... It was a hike to get to the car, but got my steps in. It was warmer than it was on Wednesday too, with the seating filled including the lawn.
Grace VanderWall: I don't know how this is other than she is a teenage (guessing by her look) girl who plays the ukulele. Somone nears us said she won one of those tv shows. She had a great voice, but her style just didn't register with any of the four of us.
Imagine Dragons: Started off with a bang, the energy was pretty electric. The music kept coming for the first 3-4 songs, then they got into the stuff that I didn't know. They all sounded the same, and I wasn't that invested. They then did 3 acoustic sounds in the middle of the second seating section, and the lead singer walked while singing one song in the walk way between the 2nd and 3rd level of seats. Security has cleared it out before hand. They then finished on the stage for the last 3 songs which finished very strong. I went in knowing 7-9 songs of the 22 song playlist, came away knowing the same number of songs. It was a really well done show. Would see them again.
First Concert: 1979 - Molly Hatchet - Homecoming II tour at the Jax Coliseum.
Saturday 21 Pilots:
This was the second concert this year of the our bands are dying off, so needs to see newer music live (Imagine Dragons being the first).
Missed the opening act watching the 3rd/4th quarter of the Gator game at the bar. My wife didn't have a problem waiting her two friends did, but I was driving so the complaints fell on deaf ears.
I got to my seats as the second act AWOLNATION came on, they played 8 songs I knew 2 of them. The songs I knew sounded like I expected, and the rest wasn't as bad as I expected. The lead singer was dressed like a cross between the lead singer of Nickelback (Ox's favorite band) and Don Johnson during Miami Vice an odd combination.
21 Pilots: I'm not a big 21 Pilots fan, I might know 8 songs of the 24 song (not including the covers goo goo dolls Iris and Hey Jude). The energy of the show was great and they sounded (on the songs I knew) like the radio. Their show was kind of like a watered down cross between Motely Crue and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. It felt like I had seen it before, but other people did it better. We were the only ones in our age group in our section that didn't bring their kids. Lot of young people. It is by far the whitest concert I've been to. As the lead singer "rapped" the wife said "is this what young white people think rap is now?" It was a good show after watching a schitty game, but I don't know if I would see them again (if I wasn't taking my daughter). Nothing about the show was special.
Interesting. I heard they crushed it. They always end their concerts with Trees. Look familiar:
