ARTICLE: http://www.gatorsports.com/2017/12/floridas-journey-football-coaching-hire/
I'm over the fact that we ended up with Mullen. He wasn't my first pick, but he was far from the last (Strong, Kiffin, Meyer, and many others way lower on the list than Mullen).
I'm over the fact that there are a bunch of sold-out members of the media who are selling us the company line (Dooley especially included).
I'm over the fact that Foley is still hovering over our program like a giant vampire bat, blotting out any sunshine that might think about coming our way.
What I am not over is the fact that our AD doesn't have the stomach to be a high school AD. Dooley's article specifically states (and makes it sound like he has the inside line (although that is reasonably doubtful)) that Stricklin believed that Mullen was the best choice and did not act on that belief due to the queasiness in his stomach about the pain that it might cause MSU. He specifically said that it would have been a one man race from the get go, but for the feeling that the thought of taking Mullen from MSU gave him.
Now, I don't want this thread to argue Mullen's merits. In fact, for the sake of this thread, let us assume that Mullen was head and shoulders above any other candidate. What I learned from Dooley's article is 1 of 2 things.
1) Dooley is a windbag who takes artistic license with what he knows. He made up a story that he thought sounded cool but unknowingly threw the man that he so desires to brown-nose and make look good under the bus by insinuating that he would not make the best decision for his employer, the entity that he owes a legal duty to, the entity that pays his hefty paycheck, because of the feeling of queasiness that looking out for UF (and getting MSUs coach) gave him
OR
2) Stricklin refused to make the best decision for his employer, the entity that he owes a legal duty to, the entity that pays his hefty paycheck, because of the feeling of queasiness that looking out for UF (and getting MSUs coach) gave him
I really hope it is the former. If it is the latter, Stricklin should be let go immediately. Having feelings of loyalty to his alma mater and his former employer are OK. Everyone would "feel" something. However, acting on those feelings (or in this case failing to act due to those feelings) is completely unprofessional and has no place outside of places like FSU and UT. If it is in fact true and he let something like that slip to a member of the media, I believe there are immediate questions of competency. How does he say something like this to Dooley (or any media member) and think that it is alright for that to be public info?
So, Mullen may have been the best choice or not (probably not). But, the fact is, it appears our AD believed wholeheartedly that he was the best choice and refused to do anything about it because he was QUEASY. That's the word he used.......QUEASY. I'll leave it at that.
