Keep in mind, he liked the hire until Cornrows began putting together his staff.

WTF did this idiot expect, that Cornvell would bring on Venebles and Joe Brady? You hire a coach from Memphis and expect the assistant coaches to be of the same caliber.

This is very Mullenesque. Im just glad they are hiring crap too.
This isn't unique to Mullen, you know this. Most head coaches bring along portions of their staff or coaches they have a history with to their new position.

.
We hired a coach from the wac but he did not bring his entire staff of wac assistants with him, and the ones he did bring had p5 experience. When filling out the staff, he was pursued particularly concerned about getting the best recruiters he could find:

" Florida's staff already contains at least four assistants (Gonzales, Mattison, Heater and Locksley) who have been recruiting coordinators, as Heater was the recruiting coordinator at Colorado (1993, 1998), Washington (1999-03), and Utah (2004) and Mattison is a former recruiting coordinator at Notre Dame (2002-04). In addition, Gonzales was Bowling Green's co-recruiting coordinator in 2002 after leading the recruiting efforts at Kent State from 1999-2000. Locksley has been Florida's recruiting coordinator since joining the UF staff prior to the 2003 season."

Urban Meyer Announces Eight Additions To Football Staff - Florida Gators

if you hire a coach from Memphis, UCF, or cowbell, and they bring all their buddies with them, they're never going to win a championship.

Say what you want about Meyer and his "health" but he knows how to make an elite college football staff.

As for the salary staff pool, Berkowitz notes that Norvell will have a salary pool of about $5.25 million to work with for his 10 on-the-field assistants. That is slightly more than what they were set to allocate for Taggart’s staff this next fall, which was $5.1 million.

Schiano just negotiated $7.7 million for his assistants at Rutgers.

I was curious so I looked at their stats. Memphis's defense gave up an average of 24 points a game (somewhere in the 40's nationally). Not super impressive, but in 2018 the Memphis defense gave up 31 points a game and in 2017 it was 33 a game.

So they guy definitely improved their defense, but how well he'll do at fsu is yet to be seen. For those who are curious, fsu gave up 28 points a game this year compared to 14 for us.

No way we should be outside the top ten. I know this is perpetual gripe here, but seeing it in this light...smh

Hard to know which came first, the chicken or the egg, but probably not a coincidence that the top three are all in the playoffs.

So, Bama’s pool is 31% more than ours and we’re 7th in the SEC. Foley just didn’t pay attention when Gruden told him he needed a bigger asst. pool. Thanks for nothing, you cheap fcvk!

I would agree with this statement if we had asst coaches who earned their paycheck at RB, Safety and ST. Probably missing 1 or 2, but those are the obvious positions.

there's a pretty good argument that the people we have are overpaid. no one is saying pay these guys more.

we want to hire quality people and pay them what they're worth.

Then you also have TAMU, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington all in the top 10, none of whom won more than 7 games this year. And Michigan, whose head coach is thisclose to having the guillotine dropped on his neck. Then if you look further down the list, you have perennial sh*t shows like South Carolina, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and FSU. Correlation is not causation.
