Punishment is to teach the violator that he cannot take X,Y, or Z drug components. If the player relies on an
ingredient label that purposely hides an illegal ingredient, that player should be considered less culpable, if
culpable at all. ??
The crux of suspension-length should come down to the player's recognition of the ingredients being questionable
and not checking on such doubtful ingredient(s). Missing half next season could damage Grier's professional earning
power (draft position), especially since Grier, next year, with great performance would be eligible for an NFL contract$
and up/down $igning bonu$. The NCAA should be disallowed to harm or impede any citizen's access to life, liberty
and pursuit of happiness = and I feel very unhappy now.
On the supplement industry: gotta be careful when accusing Big Pharma about trying to sabotage supplement sales,
because 10-15 years ago Bayer purchased one of the leading Supplement Companies. I guess they realized that that
drug industry was way more profitable than wrangling in honesty with FDA requirements. By this I bet other Big Pharma
have followed Bayer's lead.
Storywise, 60-Minutes did an expose' on a "holistic" supplement company. Their biggest seller was a "drug" promising
to solve or boost some health property. The main ingredient was "goose liver" extract. Now, the holistic philosophy says
that you "bombard" the ailing body with the smallest amount of a chemical that you are resistant to in order to activate
your natural resistance to "whatever". When the company prez was pressed he admitted that they got $94,000 out of
one goose liver (after 60-Minutes showed him a whistle-blower's internal documents tracing their process on paper) !
On the plus side PETA was very happy with them.
