I'm not convinced he was trying to help clown town. there are plays where a team tries to hide a player, like that one where we hid Hammond behind a bunch of TEs on the goalline. He was likely telling the other defenders to look for the extra receiver, either trying to hide right on goal or hidden behind an OL.
