Just an FYI- there were 12 men on the field on that play which is why Mac called that timeout.

Kudos to Mac on this.

I hate this call. Not just tonight but it is insane. How many times has that gone wrong. Please stop this.

I heard Mac say there were 12 Gators on the field so the time out was the right call.

Nobody is going to pay attention to the fact that there were 12 men on the field and they'll use that excuse to bitch about something, but damn if that wasn't heads up by Mac.

Anybody have a screen shot of the 12 men? I am not saying I do not believe him. Just want to see the play. It looked like he called the time out right before they snapped the ball. Which is more in line as an ice the kicker tactic vs 12 men on the field. On the replay it appeared as he was watching the clock go down to zero and called it right before they snapped.

I don't have a screen shot but I paused the play on TV and counted 'em and sure enough there were 12.

Good show Zambo. Mac made the heads up call, not that the refs had enough on the ball to catch it. What a thrill!!

i saw Gators had 12 men on the field(forgot where)...If that's true...good call....Usually i don't like the call to ice the kicker...I know somewhere their is a stat that shows if it really works or not.

Great call...good for him. He clearly outcoached the bum from Knoxville. VolNation is in full Three Mile Island mode.

I doubt icing the kicker works. It usually gives them an extra moment to collect themselves.

But avoiding the penalty was fortunate.

That's definitely 12. Great move then, well, a move he had to do no matter what, really.

Yeah, the delay in the sideline TO per Mac was debating for a moment whether the REFs would see it or not, in the end he opted not to take the chance and called it... for those wondering about why the clock was wound down before execution... see Gatorvision post game.

No matter the reason or timing. It's a penalty if the ball is snapped. Therefore good call by Mac. Kill two birds with one T-O.

Excellent call by Mac since there were 12. Never a fan of 'freezing the kicker' though in a regular situation, let their nerves play through, calling a timeout helps them to calm nerves and refocus in most cases.

They were scrambling to get ST players out and one guy ran out, stopped, looked back and then ran to the line. I was trying to count but figured the TO was for 12 men. Special teams need to improve.
