Gatornation what has happened to us!?

this whole thing seems almost like a conspiracy as Muschamp should have been fired immediately after the humiliating loss at home last year to GA Southern

for whatever Foley insists to stay the course w Muschamp and our downward spiral continues to reach new lows...

for a minute after that debacle of a game i felt happy and relieved because now FINALLY we would be done w Mushchamp!

BUT NO! nothing coming from the AA and our misery continues!

to all those people that only have half a brain and think we need to keep Muschamp until the end of the season I say UG! Why O why would we even want him on the recruiting trail right now and who in their right mind would want to play for him or this team right now!!??

the only thing that makes any sense at all would be to fire him AND DRISKEL immediately and start from square one!

THIS MOVE WOULD ACTUALLY HELP OUR RECRUITING! HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT SEE THIS!?

I am selling my season tickets and will not return until Muschamp and company are gone!

have to finish w this. I actually like Will and Jeff but both are soooooo painfully over their heads most of the world is now feeling sorry for them! PUT THEM OUT OF THEIR MISERY NOW!!!!!

FIRE FOLEY DOT COM!

I actually felt a little relieved after the game because I thought Foley would FINALLY do the right thing but of course we get nothing so yes OX I would say mad is an understatement!

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

This year should have never happened. Someone needs to answer for it. This garbage was written before the season. Anyone with half a brain knew what was going to happen. All the signs were OBVIOUS. It played out exactly how it should have. Incompetent coach coaches an incompetent team. Who knew?

First of all, no one can "fire" Jeff Driskel. If you mean bench him, well yes, Muschamp/Roper can make him the 2nd string QB. But you can't "fire" him, which I guess would mean taking away his scholarship and/or expelling him from the football team or even UF, unless he committed egregious crimes (Jameis anyone?), which we know he didn't do. That's one of the most asinine statements I've seen on any message board.

Secondly, if UF fired Foley (and the only person who could do this is Machen, who he reports to), we would look like the laughingstock of college athletics. He is considered one of the best ADs in America, running one of the best overall athletic programs in the country. Our profitability, graduation rates, and overall championships are hard to match.

Now, I'm not defending keeping Will, and perhaps Foley is waiting to see if there will be a slaughter at the hands of UGA, in which case he will fire him on Sunday, Nov 2nd. None of us know his timetable, but if you do look out at the landscape of who's available, this is not a good year to be hiring a new coach, esp. an offensive-minded one. If he fires him on Nov 2nd (presuming a slaughter at the hands of Georgia) you can bet he'll be auditioning Roper for HC.

All of this IS having an effect in alumni-land. As a long-time officer of the Savannah Gator Club, our President (I am secretary and webmaster) texted me today that from the out-of-state club FB page, the Las Vegas Club had their lowest attendance since their first year in existence. Another club had to change the TVs to Vols-Ole Miss and ND-Criminoles in order to keep Gators in their bar. Since so much academic fund-raising goes on at Gator Club viewing parties, this IS having an indirect effect on academics.

Something must be done, but I think we are going to have to wait to November 2nd at the earliest.

We already do.

What would the fall be like without another insightful contribution from Buford.

Well, Machen (and his succesor, Fuchs) is not going to fire Foley, under any circumstances, short of a morals event or a criminal event.

What would it be like without angst and controversy in Gator-Land? This has been going on since 2010, Urban's last year, and you could even make the argument for 2009, when, for several weeks in a row (partially due to Tim's concussion and Urban's reluctance to let Tim be Tim) many on the old GSMB felt that we were not winning "big enough".

If those pics that Muschamp has of Foley with a goat ever surface, that may qualify as a morals event.

I have not attended one event that the Houston Gator Club has thrown. Normally, it is packed and you cannot find seats. I don't think that is a problem this year.

This happens a lot when a hall of fame person hangs around longer than they need to...if Foley is as good as you think(and I personally think he's done an A+ job overall as a body of work)....why didn't he foresee this happening? Many, and I mean many, saw the writing on the wall. Foley did not or he ignored it...either of those is bad. His legacy shouldn't be getting tarnished but it is. Jeremy wasn't going to be the AD forever. Foley isn't going to get fired but he should consider retiring and letting the next person choose his guy.

You mentioned candidates as well for THIS year...Foley should have looked at recruiting and what was available last year and factored that into making a good decision.

He crapped the bed on this whole mess. You can't screw up this bad and not be held accountable. He already had Zook. That was the mulligan. When there isn't a home run he strikes out.

Its not the best list but a list none the less of who the media is thinking. thought I would share

Not sure Venables is a good idea, I don't think we'd take another DC unless it's HC Strong, who was OUR DC. While everyone loves Charlie, I just cannot see him leaving UT after only one season. It would cost a fortune to get him, along with buying out Will (which is a fixed cost, anyway).

Roper makes sense b/c he's already here, and the players know him, and (I hope) they like him.

Mack Brown is an idiotic choice, he's just too damned old.

Smart would be a smart choice (pun intended), but again, another DC. I don't think Jeremy would be looking at DCs after the Zook/Muschamp debacles.

Morris makes sense - he has transformed Clemson into a pretty much high-octane offense

Harbaugh would be INSTANT credibility - would make the fan base go wild. If he left SF, how much would we have to pay to get him? And besides, WHEN would SF let him go? If they make the playoffs, can we wait THAT long to get a HC on board, even if he's a proven winner like Harbaugh (well, I guess the name recognition would help with recruiting)

And, of course, Dan. He says he's not leaving for anywhere, but you never know.

My choices are Mullen, Harbaugh, and Morris. It would be great to have Charlie back, but would he really leave UT after just one year?

This is the only scenario that makes sense to me.
Picture this; New York 1970:

A young Jeremy Foley is travelling to Florida for Christmas break to spend his holiday with his ailing grandmother. Jeremy hops into his AMC pacer and begins the drive to Florida. Things are going well on the trip as Foley is crossing the Georgia line with the windows down, enjoying the warmth of the southern air as his hair blows in the wind.

Foley was given a tidbit of information from one of his friends that he could score some reefer off of 95 in Georgia. As Foley detours into Georgia his Pacer begins shaking and sputtering due to a faulty belt eventually leaving Foley stranded on a small road outside of Rome, Georgia. Foley exits his car to survey the vehicle when not much later a rumbly pick up truck stops to assist the young man.

The driver of the truck tells a young Jeremy Foley that a service station is a few miles down the road and assists him to get the car to the station. Upon finding out that the car can be ready the next day, the pick up driver invites a young Jeremy Foley to stay the nigh in his barn.

As our young Jeremy Foley drives into a dusty homestead as a passenger in his aide's truck, he notices a young woman carrying feed to the hog pen. Foley admires this young girls work ethic and casualness which is in stark contrast to the snobbish girls he sees in his college. Seeing Foley gaze at his daughter, the truck driver sternly admonishes Foley that his little girl is betrothed to Bobby Lee and will marry in the spring.

After a family dinner Jeremy Foley is escorted to the barn with a blanket, pillow and wash bowl with one last warning from his host.

Later that night Jeremy Foley is visited by the young daughter and experiences bliss under the stars on a cool Georgia night. The following day a young Foley is taken to the service station, offers his sincerest gratitude to his host and resumes his trip to florida occasionally reminiscing about his stop in Georgia.

Fast forward to 2009. Jeremy Foley is a successful AD with Urban Meyer having won 2 national championships. Urban Meyer is now in ill health and longing to spend time with his family. One day Florida's AD returns to his office to find a man sitting there that he does not know. This man has a manilla envelope containing an old library card with Jeremy foley's name on it and a faded old sweatband. This young man tells Jeremy the story of his mother overcoming adversity. His mother was shunned from town and married an old schoolmasters who eloped with her to Gainesville, Florida in 1972 due to her being an unwed mother. This man told Jeremy Foley that he had one wish his whole life; he wanted to coach football! The young man slid Jeremy Foley the envelope and walked out saying, "I expect your call in the morning."

The next day a press conference is held announcing a young unproven candidate named Will Muschamp as the new Head coach of the Florida Gators. Foley is later quoted as saying that no other candidate was contacted.

A reporter asked if he'd fire Muschamp mid season. Jeremy replied with this. "C’mon, I’m not going to answer that question," he told Greg Stoda of the Palm Beach Post. "It’s irrelevant. Any evaluations on this team will be made on the season."

That's frustrating. Also, has anybody been listening to the Steve Russel show today with Noah Brindise? Noah might be the biggest idiot I've ever listened to. If you've listened to the show, you'll know what I'm talking about.
