Maybe we’ll get another shot at Chip Kelly after all; UCLA crushes LSU

I agree. I think because the players fit what he likes, there could be some short-term success, but he's not a good long-term solution.

I think people believe that I want this to happen. That's not the case. I think it could possibly happen. If Mullen is let go this year or next, like it or not, I think Malzahn will be a serious candidate for Strickland if he's still at UCF.

Nobody’s as good as shopping the discount aisle merchandise rack and dramatically overpaying than Stricklin, so this makes perfect sense.

Chip will not be in 2022 unless Mullen leaves on his own accord. In comparing the big 3 options in 2018, I think there has been a lack of perspective from the UF side:
  • UF had a wealth of talent that UCLA and Nebraska did not. Trask, Pitts, Swain, Toney, Scarlett, Perine, Hammond, Cleveland, etc. as the years have since showed us.
  • UF is a much better situation than those two schools- SEC, recruiting hotbed, success that recruits may actually remember in their lifetimes, etc.
  • UF had the talent to be better than it was in 2017, but was held back by incompetent coaching in MacNuss, the other schools had neither talent nor coaching.
  • Due to that the rebuilding projects at the other two schools would take longer.
  • Poor Frost felt like he had to save his alma mater. The issue he's had is his south Florida recruitment strategy is trying to sell a school that hasn't really been relevant in any recruits' lifetimes and saying come to the boring as F midwest.
  • I honestly believe if you mixed the three, UF would look better sooner than the rest and I believe whoever came in was set up to do well. That's not to make any particular commentary on Mullen, but that a "look we are 8-4 with our best passing season of all-time while Nebraska and UCLA are bad. We dodged bullets like Neo in The Matrix." attitude may not tell the whole tale due to lack of program context.

I don’t know. A month ago I would’ve agreed. But I’m just seeing too many signs that say we’re staring at a Mullen to Kelly transition, and probably sooner rather than later. I took my son to the concession stand last night and there were already all kinds of artisanal pizzas and Brie. I’d say get ready.
