McElwain personally escorting nation's top kicker around town

Anyone who has watched a Florida game this year has cringed whenever the Gators line up for a field goal. Actually, scratch that. Even extra points have been cringe-worth.

Starter Austin Hardin missed two more field goals in a 27-2 loss to Florida State on Saturday to move to just 5-13 on the season. He is now a career 16-35 kicker at Florida, and yet somehow, astonishingly, the Gators don't have a better option.

Needless to say coach Jim McElwain has made recruiting an elite kicker a top priority in 2016.

"We’ll get a kicker," McElwain said Saturday night. "That’s our responsibility and we’ll get one. And we’ll get a good one."

Those weren't just empty words from McElwain, either. On a jam-packed recruiting weekend, he is taking time out of his day Sunday to personally escort Alabama kicker commitment Eddy Pineiro, the nation's No. 1 kicker, around town.

Pineiro has been a frequent visitor to Florida's campus this fall, and the Gators will be looking to flip his commitment down the stretch.

This kid has seemed very Bama bound through twitter and everything he has said. He is actually committed to Bama so this would be a pretty major flip if Mac can pull it off. I'm not holding my breath. The reality is we don't need a top kicker.. we just need an above average kid. How many teams have kickers that can make basic FGs and we don't.
