Coach, a real offense would have dropped 50 on Vandy. We've got a long, long, way to go.

I agree. I don't think anyone on the team thinks we are near our potential yet. That being said, we are already light years ahead of where we were with Jeff. Our new leader is a true freshman with two starts, I would hope we haven't already peaked already.oxrageous;103094 said:We've got a long, long, way to go.

On a similar not, when a defense gets a turnover score, or sets up like a 1-2 play drive for the offense, I've always thought coaches should call a timeout before the first play of the opposing team's ensuing drive. Especially if they've been out there a lot. Your D goes and earns you points, and is basically told "Thanks, now go right back out there". No data to support it, but I bet a solid 50% of the next drives result in points, simply due to the defense being gassed. A time out there seems so obvious, and I literally say it every time it happens.

soflagator;n103318 said:But even by coaches' admissions, their ideal drive would take 6-7 minutes off the clock(10-15 minutes real time) en route to a TD. Then you have the PAT and kickoff on top of that. It gives the defense a chance to really regroup and rest.
Just the PAT, followed by a kickoff is somewhere between a 3 and out and a one 1st-down, 4-6 play drive in terms of down time fro the defense. As I said, in games with parity, watch how many times the opposing team slices through a defense on the following drive.
