Nothing excuses targeting, now I think they did not explain it properly. It is not due to be defenseless, but rather helmet to helmet contact. He clearly fumbled and with that many could have tried to recover it. I hate that new rule but here I think it was correct.

That was a terrible call...the guy fumbled and Dean five in to grab it...very minor contact. Not sure how you’re supposed to go for a fumble and not lead with the head

That’s where these rules become so ****ing maddening because they defy all laws of physics. You can’t play this game 100% safely. Or start allowing tripping, leg whips , whatever...it’s the only way to tackle without leading with the helmet
