in other news...here is the kid we just offered. He is from Kathleen. I saw him play in person in Lakeland. Thoughts? (I know...he's a 3 star)

Wait a minute,.....I think I actually saw this guy drop into pass coverage :eek2:.
JK, he looks good and seems to be pretty well rounded when it comes to playing both the pass and run. He read the plays well, closed the gap and made the stop, looked like he might have decent speed from the special teams plays. Playing LBer seems to becoming a lost art at the HS level anymore...everyone wants to be a pass rush specialist, or run support extra body. Hope he likes us.

Just out of curiosity. Why did ancient reptile dislike this post?

:dunno:I have no idea, maybe he didn't agree with my assessment of Miller? I think he looks pretty good although it is a highlight tape.
He's probably not rated higher because he doesn't run a 4.3 and 360 a basketball.

Your response just reinforces my post. We were behind last year. We're behind currently. Wake up! The staff needs to get their **** together and start producing. Jesus christ. Stop the excuse making and hold people accountable for once. Or don't. Your excuses and my criticism won't change the outcome. It's all and Mac and Co.

So why do you persist?

I get you telling pumpers to stfu about 'wait and see', because TODAY we aren't king of the hill. I could drop another paragraph on why TODAY isn't NSD, so TODAY doesn't matter so much....and yet, it does to you, despite you acknowledging your btching doesn't change things. So why do you keep btching?

Because recruiting is ongoing and fluid. Information is being released 24/7 about these kids. We're behind. Do you think it is in good conscience to just table recruiting till NSD? Of course not. There's a recruiting notebook that comes out weekly or bi-weekly. It will generate discussion. Not talking about it isn't going to make it go away.

You are basically asking people to not talk about a particular subject because you don't like hearing about Mac sucking on the recruiting trail. Hell, it's probably more on his staff than him. Every day we get further and further behind Bama and FSU. Do you just want to not talk about it until Feb? Doesn't it piss you off?

We're here to talk about it. It's not going to go away until he nails that top 5 class. On that day I want you to serve me all the crow I can eat. Till then the criticism is deserved and warranted.

So, btching about it will make it better? Or it won't? I have trouble where you imply 'sunshine pumper' comments don't help....and acknowledge btching won't change it either, but then you tell pumpers they need to quit pumping sunshine while you continue to btch.

And you're basically asking people to stop having hope because we suck TODAY and you don't want to hear how it can get better?

I get it. We're in the off season, so this stuff is all we really have to talk about. It's why I tolerate your negativity, because it's just as justified 'venting/hoping' as the rest of us pumpers. There is nothing much else to talk about, and we all accept our words won't change it. But that's no reason to tell pumpers to stop pumping, unless it is equally fair to tell you negative nellies to stop negating...negativing....negasomethinging.

Does it piss me off? No, honestly. It's not that important in my life, and maybe that's the driving difference. For me, I couldn't tell you what classes we pulled in before SOS, but more to the point when we were winning for a decade under him, I couldn't tell you what recruiting we had. All I knew was I loved UF and they went from bad to great, then bad again with Zook and good again with Meyer and bad again with WM, and ....we'll see what's next. But bottom line, I've never had so much of myself invested that it mattered to me who was on staff, how we recruited, how many stars a kid had or what we were ranked preseason. All that ever mattered was when I watched the game on Saturday, we played well and won, preferably in dominant fashion.

My life is easier knowing it will go on regardless of all these factors I cannot control. I'll enjoy what I can get from it, and when it sucks...well, it sucks (ie WM era). I'll get mad on that Saturday and hope for better next Saturday. That's my nature, try to enjoy what works out and not get hung up on the things that go bad, especially when they are so far outside my control.

By the way, if he gets that top 5 class this year, does that solve all the world's woes? If he gets a 6th ranked class, are we fkd? Should we fire him that day? Does the team's performance over the season matter all that much, or is it just landing this class? I'll agree, landing a solid class makes winning easier, but if he wins anyway with a 6th, or 12th, or 21st ranked class....do we still fire him? You seem to have way too much emotional investment on things you cannot control.

A couple things...this is a Gatorsports Forum. Football is king. Agreed? No one is saying that a game is more important than worldly matters....family, friends, God. This is a place to talk about Gator football and other sports. If he gets a 6th ranked class we will all rejoice. That's one spot better than our average over the last 15 years. Our AVERAGE. Crazy huh. My issue with the pumpers is that REALITY goes out the window. It's all excuses and rationalizations and stars don't matter. AT some point, it just is. My belief is that you accept reality and the truth so you can fix it. Whether it is getting better assistants or upgrading facilities or whatever. There is a fix. But you have to be able to admit there's an issue first. Seems like most pumpers refuse to admit there is a major problem with the UF brand. How do we fix it?

Instead of rationalizing all the 3 stars we are taking...what can be done to get us back to where kids were lining up to play for us? Choosing to ignore the problem won't make it go away. If you are posting on a site with any regularity wouldn't you agree there's some investment? Time or emotionally or both?

Sorry, it's just not a simple explanation. We're fanatics and for good reason. We all still cheer and scream and yell. Some louder than others. I'm a lot more numb on Saturdays these days. Thanks Will. AT the end of the day we're all still Gators.

Last response for today, I promise.

Ehhhh, I'll go along. I'm tempted to say Football is Queen and Basketball is King, because we know who makes the real power moves (The Queen, Football), but yeah, I'll go along.

I'll flip that for you...

My issue with the btchers is that REALITY goes out the window. It's all right now instant gratification, and opportunities and potential don't matter. AT some point, it just is. My belief is that you accept reality and the truth so you can fix it. But to do so, you have to recognize what's fixable now and what isn't, as well as who is in position to address it.

But to the heart of where I think you are trying to take us....

This, is where we agree. I'm in the same boat in terms of always improving (except for personal diet and exercise, that's for tomorrow). Even if you win a NC, there's room to improve as things are always changing. That may be the wrinkle of difference. I, an admitted pumper, acknowledge there is always room for improvement - however, I recognize a) I don't know enough to fix it; and b ) I don't have authority to effect change. Foley f'd up the last several years, but it is his job and Mac's to fix football at UF. That's what they are paid for, not me. My job is to enjoy Saturday's without scaring my children (win or lose).

"Understanding Astrologers and Recruitniks for Dummies". There is only one rule and it is very simple: Recruitniks and astrologers had rather win recruiting than win on the field. Corollary: It is better, so they think, to have the number one recruiting class thsn to win the National Championship.

Remind me how good Kintucky and Vandy are with their 3 star talent.
Solid point, but you know it takes more than just recruiting. You have to have solid coaching, as well. WM proved that beyond the shadow of a doubt. I think our recruiting needs to improve, but I also think we're in much better hands right now so I'm still optimistic. I feel like we signed our best offensive class in a loooooong time last year and we have good numbers at OL, so that side of the ball should start being fun to watch again and teams will have to actually play defense against us again. Defenseively, we have to step it up on the recruiting trail or changes will need to be made to the staff. I don't wanna try to beat teams 41-38 in 2017 and beyond.

Unfortunately, Kentucky and Vanderbilt aren't up for discussion. They stated that we had to have top ranked classes to be at the top. I want them to explain why we were not at the top when we had top classes. You are intelligent enough to see where I am going with this. Let them fight their own battle on this one lol.
