Week 3 is in the books, and there were some wild numbers, both in blowouts and close games. Here were 10 interesting stats from the weekend.

Tennessee ran seven plays inside Florida’s 10-yard line, all seven were passes, and only one was completed, for no gain

When the field is short, you have to be able to run, and Tennessee didn’t even hand it to John Kelly, who had 141 rushing yards on 19 carries for the game. In the third quarter, the Vols had 1st-and-goal at the 1-yard line for two consecutive plays. The first was an incomplete pass, followed by a Florida penalty, and the second was a Tennessee false start. Tennessee followed with an incomplete pass, a screen pass for no gain and an interception.

A touchdown would have given the Vols the lead, and maybe that crazy fourth quarter plays out differently. Instead, it was just another last-second heartbreaker at The Swamp.

Clemson is 9-1 in top-15 matchups over the last three years and 12-1 in its past 13 games against top-25 teams.

Dabo Swinney’s teams get up in the big games, the latest a 47-21 win at No. 14 Louisville. The Tigers have won a school-record 11 consecutive road games and 17 of their last 18 away from home.

Oklahoma State had four 100-yard receivers in a game, the first FBS team to do so since 2005.

In a 59-21 win at Pitt, those receivers were Jalen McCleksey (162 yards), James Washington (124), Marcell Ateman (109) and Dillon Stoner (100). Texas Tech was the last team to do it, against Kansas State in 2005.

The Cowboys had seven touchdowns on seven true drives in the first half, totaling 516 yards and 423 passing yards from Mason Rudolph, both school records for a half.

Notre Dame averaged 10.1 yards per rush on 51 attempts, a modern era program record.

The Irish ran for 515 yards against Boston College, its most rushing yards since 1969 against Navy. Back in 1942, Notre Dame averaged 10.0 yards per carry against Great Lakes (Note: Notre Dame's “modern era” begins with the start of World War II).

Quarterback Brandon Wimbush’s 207 rushing yards also set a program record that dated back to that 1969 Navy game.

Virginia recorded 626 yards of offense against UConn after putting up 668 yards in its first two games combined.

The Cavaliers beat UConn 38-18. The 626 yards were the most for the program since 2010. It’s only the fourth time in the Bronco Mendenhall era that they broke 400 yards. Virginia’s first scoring drive was 18 plays, the longest scoring drive in school history.

Despite the offensive struggles in a year-plus under Mendenhall, the two biggest single-game passing outputs have come under him. Quarterback Kurt Benkert passed for a school-record 455 yards, surpassing his own record set last year against Central Michigan (421).

Washington’s Dante Pettis has tied NCAA records for career punt return touchdowns (8) and consecutive games with a punt return touchdown (3).

The latest came in the first quarter of a 48-16 win against Fresno State. Pettis is the third player in NCAA history to record a punt return TD in three consecutive games.

Rutgers ended the longest losing streak in FBS (11 games), and Austin Peay ended the longest losing streak in all of Division I (29 games).

Rutgers beat Morgan State 65-0, its first win since Sept. 17, 2016 against New Mexico.

Austin Peay beat Morehead State 69-13, the FCS program’s first win since Oct. 18, 2014. The last time the program won more than one game in a season was 2012.

Vanderbilt beat a top-25 team in a non-conference game for the first time since 1946.

That was No. 20 N.C. State on Nov. 9, 1946. So it’s been a while! The Commodores are 3-0 for the first time since 2011 and welcome Alabama to Nashville this week. Vandy has won seven of its past 10 games, dating back to last season.

Since 2010, Northern Illinois has defeated five of the seven teams in the Big Ten West.

That includes Minnesota (2010), Iowa (2013), Purdue (2013), Northwestern (2014), and Nebraska (2017).

The only two teams to avoid it are Illinois, which beat NIU in 2010, and Wisconsin, which won in 2011.

USF has scored at least 30 points in 20 consecutive games, the longest streak in FBS.

The Bulls put up 680 yards in a 47-23 win Friday against Illinois, the most yards against an FBS opponent in program history.
